Pretty much every year about this time I get sick with what starts out as a sore throat. I was reading about causes today and think it’s because of dry air in our house. While wife was in KC and I’m on Lay-off I’ve been working on whatever I can afford to work on around house. I was working down in our basement all last week and it’s pretty musty down there. Not really sure what is causing snot fest but I’ve got one! I’ve been eating Garlic and Ketchup which kinda helps if ya feel the burn a bit before sending it to stomach. Also eat this Hot Salsa with onions, tomatoes, jalapeños and cilantro. I eat about ten chips worth of salsa again feeling the burn and exhaling through nose. Pretty soon I feel sinuses getting loose and out comes the nasty stuff. I also use a Neti Pot a little different than instructed by sucking up the warm water with tongue pushed up to top of mouth holding it and opening mouth to let it flow out. The last one sorta works but water has to be just right temperature to get it out. With all that said anybody have any good home remedies to get an upper hand on a sore throat??? I hate those and it happens every year about this time and then next comes the coughing which sucks too. Anyway any good remedies and Prayers would be appreciated! Thanks!

I’ve had good results with honey and oregano extract mix. I eat it straight off the spoon. You can literally feel it nuking the mucus haha

Second adding a humidifier to the furnace. It’s an easy project and not terribly expensive.

Oh yeah tell me more, I’ve thought about having one put in. Didn’t realize it was that easy of a project. What do I need to do to add one? Also where do you get it so you can add it? Thanks!

Our Oak dining room table actually cracked because of our dry house some years ago. When Spring shows up crack disappears.

I’ve installed four now over the past few years and if you have basic handyman skills, it’s simple. You can buy them from the big box home stores. I got this one from Lowe’s. You’ll need a jig saw with a metal cutting blade and a few basic tools. Also need to tap into a nearby cold water line which most of the kits provide a line tapping kit. I suggest putting in an actual valve as they will not fail over time. The instructions on these are pretty straight forward. Once you add one of these you won’t know how you lived without it. Just make sure to replace the pad every year.

Stupid question but I don’t know... is there anything that you can do about this short of buying a water softener?

    not that I know of
there might be ones that have their own tank that you could fill with distilled water
or an under sink reverse osmosis filter to feed the dehumidifier

If your basement is that musty maybe a dehumidifier is needed down there . Check for any mold down there too? Good luck
