sure on the 120? Should be 240 across the two hot lines. 120 between a hot and the neutral.

I’d suggest rewiring to include a ground line if possible tho.

A 240 volt load doesnt require a neutral, so the receptacle should already be grounded.

Where were you measuring? It should measure 220-240 between the two big spades, and 120 between the spades and the 90° lower and center socket.

Dryers often use both 240 and 120. These days they use a 4 prong to provide neutral for the 120v usage. Old installs with just three wires might be using neutral or might be using ground. Best to make sure it’s not neutral.

You can follow the wire where it comes back into the panel board and see if it connects with the other grounds or goes to the neutral bar.

Perfect. Now just go to Home Depot or any other hardware store and find a plug kit made for that receptacle configuration. I've had to buy a few different plugs for my extension cord depending on the dryer receptacle for the last few houses that I've lived in.

Are you wiring a 220-240 machine?

I was just scanning the owners many for the Miller TB 225.

It tells you if you are never going to turn the thing up to 150a, you are fine to run it on 10 gauge wire/30 a breaker, yet it tells you you need a 50a plug. Oh, yeah, you need to be 87' or less from the breaker panel.

I just love the built in ambiguity in the manual.

If you stick with 30a plugs, there are many choices. 50a not as many.

As @Mojo Jojo says, best is trace it back and see if the third leg goes to ground or neutral bar.

As a first check tho, see if the outlet wires are white, black, and bare cobbler or if they’re black, red, and white. If the latter there’s a good chance it’s neutral not ground. Still would want to verify at the panel.

Bring that picture of the receptacle with you, it'll help ensure that you get the correct plug. Follow the instructions with the plug (paying attention to which terminations are hot vs neutral vs ground).

Make good terminations on the plug kit and you'll be set.

working on learning to weld 1/4” plate. Earlier in the day on a separate machine I didn’t own, I was using a 7018 rod with it turned all the way up. Long story short, someone I knew was selling this machine I currently am trying to set up, just trying to make sure I’ll have everything set up properly. These were the welds from earlier, I didn’t do them was just more or less shown a few things

I could only find 3 to compare that all fit within the criteria (4.5", corded, trigger, etc.)
    I wonder which is best...

    DeWalt 43116, $140

    Milwaukee 6121-30, $130

    Define best.

You’ve listed 13 amp, 11 amp, and 7.5 amp models.

    Apple, Orange, Plum.

is there a reason for trigger vs paddle or slide switch?

Some businesses require a dead man switch.

Many like the slide switch on the back of the grinder that just takes a tap to let it spring to the off position.

I do not like the slide switch on the side! (Of course I have 2 of the bastards).

They all appear to be oranges of slightly different sizes

    a trigger switch seems safest

I can only use the side switch. Have two dewalt switch ones and a cordless with a pdddle. The paddle I almost have to use two hands or the handle or else my hands go numb (mind you I’m youngish too). I really wish they would made a smaller base grinder with a switch. I wouldn’t mind trying one with a trigger though

Why? Let go of a paddle switch and grinder stops.

Anyway, more info as to what you’re planning to do with the grinder would help folks give you guidance. Similarly, convey any rules like deadman switch and or specific safety concerns.

Basic 5 amp slide switch models do fine for lots of jobs. I have two of those and a Milwaukee 11amp paddle switch model for heavier stuff.
