2020 Tacoma not remote starting

The engine shutting off when you open the door bothers me more than it should. No reason for it.

 

It is cheap and it’s not an issue but i wanna have other options that an aftermarket alarm/remote start has

 

After reading this thread I emailed the General Manager of the dealer I bought my truck from and asked about the subscription and key fob. He assured me the key fob will work when the subscription runs out. We will have to see. BTW Toyota Canada sent me an email telling me they extended my Toyota connect for two months at no charge. It runs out Feb 5

 

I have a 2020 TRD Pro.
I do not subscribe.
I can remote start via the keyfob. click, click, click hold.

 

Weird. I’ve heard a few people say the fob continues working and others say it stops. I wonder if there’s something that needs to be updated when the subscription ends to allow the fob to continue working. Hmmmmm

 

I’ll probably gonna ask the dealership when i bring my truck in, when they fixed the hinge on my tailgate last month i noticed my bumper is out of alignment on the side they worked on and the little black plastic by the hinge is missing tabs that hold it in

My subscription has run out and my fob is not working.

 

i have a 2020 OR, subscription ran out last month. just tried the keyfob and it will not remote start.

 

Has anyone tried to re-enable using TIS Tech Stream software and a laptop yet?

 

Ok so wierd thing recently i changed my battery on my remote bc sometimes it won’t lock with my remote everyone and then and i was curious and tried the remote start and it started right up... i guess the battery was weak of something but now it started up... only had the truck since oct 19’ so is that odd battery gotta get replaced so soon?

 

Echoing others, that's ridiculous if you actually have to continually pay to use remote start from the key fob. The app I can more understand, since it's kind of an "extra" thing (although it could still easily be a free convenience Toyota offer), but the key fob to me is a physical extension of the truck that you already purchased; any functionality it provides shouldn't be paywalled.

Buy a remote X starter on Amazon. Easy install. Its like 15 mins. No subscription ever.

 

Just today i figured out my remote start worked after the subscription ended, i think my issue was the battery bc i noticed couple times i hit the remote and truck won’t lock so i changed the battery out, odd since i got this truck little over a year ago but my remote start stayed after remote services was canceled

Weird, but are you sure Toyota didn't extend your subscription, as a courtesy for a month or so? That's what they did for me, but since my year + the courtesy extension (1 month) expired, I can no longer use the key fob to remote start.
I've also got a 2020 Off-road, purchased in Nov 2019.

 

Mine subscription has ended, and so has my ability to use remote start. Wonder if there’s a way to enable it again without the monthly services.

 

If your unhappy about this like I am then please call Toyota of America and tell them. Toyota of America said they have had zero negative feed back over the key fob not working. I was never told at the dealership about this, actually it was a selling point since my 2019 Tacoma had an aftermarket one already.
