What'd you do with your old one? I'm asking for a friend :anonymous:

    What sort of gearing? Locker?

If we weren't geared differently I'd be willing to trade you my e-locker rear axle

I'd do it in a heartbeat. I've got my eye out for an e-locker rear end in 4.56. It's a long shot, but would be so worth it IMO. I've looked into making the locker work as a standalone and it's worlds more simple than the ABS nonsense I'm looking into currently.

I'm exploring options because I don't like bandwagoning even if the common solutions are good. It's a fault of mine.

Well, if you don't mind setting up gears or getting a preset third member this is an option for down the road.

I personally hate the e-locker and want to go to a standard axle with a Detroit Truetrac

My original axle is sitting in the garage. It has 3.73's and the oem elocker. New setup is the stock tundra 4.30 gears and I'm installing an eaton elocker in it.

My truck is also a manual so 4.30 is sufficient for me

I've looked at Torsen style units. I think a lot of people don't like them because they don't know what to expect and they hate their ABS traction control. TRAC with a Truetrac should be super badass.

There is a guy on here that used the Torsen from an FRS and some milled down reverse ring gears from some other Toyota to use in the front end of his true AWD taco. That's way more work that I'm willing to do though.

Got one in the YJ and have been pleased as hell. Not sure how it would play with TRAC, but honestly not to concerned. I'm also annoyed by Auto LSD. Passive systems are best systems.

Interesting idea, but agreed on the work involved.

    Wrong gearing
    Hours out of my way
    Missing factory hardware points
Hours of labor for no gain whatsoever

I'm really seeing no downsides to this

Hear me out on the ABS TRAC system. Toyota is actually doing something freaking amazing with ATRAC. Not many people on here understand how many sensors are involved in that system or how the ABS controller calculates how and when to apply the brakes. HOWEVER. It will never replace a good mechanical device. But I tend to think that just like a Pedal Commander, this system can also be made to work more intuitively for drivers.

The reason TRAC is a huge benefit to a Torsen differential is because it will automatically apply brakes to whichever wheel is off the ground without applying them to the traction wheel. Cycling the brakes is exactly how you get a torsen with one wheel up to put power to the traction wheel. So it should be a huge benefit. Most of the time lol

    So. Many. Stickers.
So you have a Taco axle with 4.30s and an elocker just lying around?

    Boo.....

Wonder how hard it would be to swap internals and run a switch.... Hmm

If you do end up with a Torsen, I'd like to watch it work with TRAC as well. I'm nerding out on traction control lately.
It's not just internals. You have to modify the housing to make it fit. Welding on some shock tabs would be infinitely easier. Actuating the locker is just a matter of running power and giving it the right signal.

Do ya'll have recommendations on a place that can actually properly align a lifted taco in the area? I have a 2.5in Eibach lift in the front with JBA Offroad UCAs. Ever since the lift, UCAs, new wheels/tires I've had my truck aligned twice. Once at 4 Wheel Parts and again at the Toyota dealership and it still seems like it hasn't been done correctly. I was looking at the tread of my front tires yesterday(only had them since October of 2020) and the outside tread is significantly more rounded/worn than the inside tread. Since the tires weren't cheap hoping to get it taken care of ASAP but would rather just go to a place that I know can do it properly then have a bunch of back and fourth with a dealership, etc.

    Thanks!

Are you rotating your tires every 5k miles? Front tires take a bigger beating that the rears just from turning and how the suspension cycles.

    What tires and size?

Do you have your alignment numbers? I think a lot of us have had good results with the lifetime alignment from Firestone. I used the Liberty, MO location and have been happy with mine. I'm about 2" front and rear.
