What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Last tank of gas filled up on stock gears. 5:29 nitro gears + REM treatment + front harrop e locker here I come!

 

I was planning on installing new front/rear shocks, new coils, an AAL, and new upper and lower control arms this weekend. Stock-style replacement arms, Dobinsons shocks and coils (~+2-in.), and Wheeler's 3-leaf AAL.

I intended it to be a nice slow two-day project, but we are getting rain down here in Southern California, which nixed Saturday. But it looked like it would be clear today, so tried to kill it all today.

I ended up running out of time--was losing daylight and the rain started coming back in. I didn't get to the rear, but I got everything installed on the front except one of the new front shocks/springs. So for the next day, I guess I just have some SUPER Taco-lean: +2-in. on the DS and stock on the PS.

Don't worry, not driving it anywhere like this. It's just going to sit for another day, but it does look pretty silly for the time being.

Never understood why people seem to think weight directly over the axle is best. You would get a leverage effect by putting the weight near the tailgate and effectively amplify the actual weight of the bags. Close to the cab would reduce the effective weight felt by the axle. It's simple physics.

 

Is this good enough?

If not I can take more tomorrow because my wife and I are on a short vacation at Lake Arrowhead without the Tacoma.

11 hours ago I could see the blacktop of the parking lot in its entirety. That blue Matrix is ours and we should have some fun getting it out of here. Lol

 

It looks like an alarm to me but I've never seen that particular brand/model. The adjustment looks like the adjustment for a shock/impact sensor.

 

One more from this weekend. Fitted up the RTT annex that i got for dirt cheap a while back. Much needed changing space for the GF lol.

Ahhh that would make sense. I ended up pulling it from the car. Since it doesn't really have a label or anything like the tracker thing did. I'll have to double check. My mom has the same nissan I'll look under the dash next time I see her.

 

Would adding some near the tailgate and near the cab work better? Or just near the tailgate?

Weight close to the tailgate would produce more downward force at the tires on the ground than the same weight over the axle or near the cab. Leverage. Think of it like this: Pick up a 10 lb weight directly with your hands close to your body. Feels like 10 lbs (like 10lbs directly over the axle). Now put that 10 lbs on the end of a 6ft long 2x4 and try to lift if from the other end of the 2x4. Feels like more than 10lbs right? (like 10lbs near the tailgate).

 

Painted and installed my 4x Innovations rear bumper. Very happy with the way it turned out. I aim more towards the understated side of aesthetics.

 

Did you paint or Powdercoat it yourself or did they do it for you?

 

Made a forest loop to test for APRS coverage in the area and found a little damp dirt, just barely enough to mark the truck.

 

I removed the rear seats and rear console from my access cab and built a platform in its place. Photos coming

 

Installed some Timbren active off-road bump stops.
As you can see the drivers side stock bump stop broke off.
The back end of the truck is looking nasty with the fluid film full of road grime.

Looking forward to smooth hits instead of the backbreaking bottom outs!
