I forget when...the first time I've seen a shortage like this 8 years ago or 12..anyhow Walmart guy (old timer semi- retired) tells me, hey a truck just come in with a couple of cases of 22LR, wait around a bit and I'll grab it off the truck. Someone told him no he cant! I wonder if this is what happened?
I gave near all of mine to the BSA, for summer shooting events.

Does it make me shady when I allow my employees first dibs on ammo for their own use over putting it out for retail customers? Or if I have a customer who's been dealing with me since I opened and took a chance on the new store in town and I put some back for him because I know he shoots regularly?

I think its different when it is your store and you're buying the ammo than from Walmart employees who do not own it and are paid to stock it

    Same crap everyone else got
This is a reason to make me want to shop with you. As for the employees, as long as they aren't selling it for profit later down the road and depleting all your stock, I see nothing wrong with it.

No, it is not shady. It’s called talking care of your own. If everyone is hungry, you would share your fish and bread with your family first right? Same thing. Putting a huge mark up on the fish and bread b/c you can make a major profit is shady. Take care of your own then worry about the masses.

If I had the ability to reasonably ship and manage an internet or mail part of the business i would gladly open up more stuff for ya'll here

My employees are awesome and never wipe out our incoming shipments or resell ammo outside of the business. They limit themselves to the same limits we've put on our customers and they pay retail price without me having to dictate either. They grab a couple boxes here and there when it comes in and something they want and then ring it up for the price we sell it to everyone at

Things have certainly gotten out of control with ammo. Stopped by Cabela's just to check and I see there's a separate line formed in the ammo/gun Department. I browsed the ammo aisle quickly and nothing. Even all shotgun ammo is gone. Stopped quickly at the gun counter to chat with a guy I know and asked about the line. He said it's a line waiting for ammo as the truck was being unloaded and the ammo (didn't even know what was on the truck) was being brought out. I said "why the line". He told me there were two fist fights over ammo last week. So now, whomever is first in line gets first dibs, etc. Dumb asses. Oh...there were over 40 people in line.

I'll admit thats why I like how small we are

I have a bunch of outstanding orders for ammo...it trickles in when our distributors get it but I never know whats coming and we get shipments almost daily minus Saturday and Sunday...most of our regulars know that there's no schedule for when shit shows up so just come hang out and chat for a bit and have a soda or coffee in the morning and see what we pull out of the surprise shipping cartons

Sounds just like before the election three terms ago. The sad thing is some people have thousands of thousands of rounds that they will never use. I believe that many people bought them to sell for a profit, not as a legitimate business grant you. People are just shitty. No other way to put it. I have enough for my needs, I just like to restock what I use. There is a line between someone being prepared and a hoarder. As long as we don’t cross that line, everything will be ok.

I don't get it; after giving away my 22LR for good reason...I restocked and then some. Have more components for reloading than I could possibly use. Unless I decide to shoot more in retirement.

Obviously shooting is a hobby for most of us. Otherwise, we would not be here discussing it.

I hope you got a receipt for your donation. That should be tax deductible. Great cause anyway you put it.

I wasn't worried about tax write off. With any luck many of those kids will be supporters as they age.

Hmmmm  If your a small store letting your employees have first dibs would be ok by me as long as there was a limit on boxes so you could still stock the shelves.Walmart on the other hand should stock the shelves and when the employees are on their own time can make a purchase .

Same thing at our shop. We had ordered 2 pallets of 9mm at a distributor show last February. It shows up a thousand rounds at a time sporadically...:annoyed:. The shop owner also gives us first dibs as well but we try not to take advantage, unless its 300 Blackout.....:D

I can see the new gun owners,,,, but regular shooters looking for ammo and components now? I'm not trying to be a shithead, but I'm amazed by the friends, customers, co-workers, I talk guns with, now all the sudden need stuff. Conversely, most of the guys I shoot with at monthly matches are GTG, or just trading.
I was going to change calibers on my competition rifle, but I'll stick with what I have for the foreseeable future.

I'd think that's most of the old fuckers I know. They've watch this shit happen time and time again, they paid attention, saved their pennies when prices are high, and spend em when they're low. Goal is, a 4 year stash.
Wait,,,,, does that make me an old fucker? Haha
