I love the BMX world for this. I typically run 90 front 110 rear or there abouts. My non-bike friends can't wrap their heads around that type of pressure or that now in MTB I have to bleed my brakes!? What kind of sorcery - no, you're an idiot bicycles use cables for brakes you moron.

I was with a group on the subway in....I think Boston, might have been NYC, it was a while ago. I think it was NYC though when we were taking the subway instead of riding the Brooklyn bridge (PS - DO NOT BOTHER trying to ride the BB, just don't do it).

110 PSI going on a subway platform sounds REMARKABLY like a gunshot.

Join the Fat Bike world, where 5psi feels like riding on basketballs. (3 psi is typically the baseline)

 

Pump it to 15 and feel your limbic system reboot when you hit a rock!

Anyone have riding time on a Trust fork? I'm debating grabbing one to run on my hardtail...

I know they went out of business, but it's my understanding that a local suspension shop in SLC is going to continue servicing them. Also, there are some real good deals to be found; I could get one for a similar price to a Pike or Fox 34.

 

Concussion and a broken pinky here! But that was more directly the woeful brakes than it was the PSI of the tires. Fast rolling 15psi got me to overloading the brakes, and that rock garden got really close really fast.

 

I rode the lower travel one (message?) about 1.5 years ago. It was a really good fork, and quite different than any "normal" fork in a good way. Proprietary + complex part assemblies and what the seller wanted for it was too much for me though. Plus it wasn't gonna fit my 29+ configured Stache which was what it was going to go on.

But for ~pike pricing, I might be tempted. Still having maintenance services is a big selling point for us SLC locals as well.

I loathed it. Trust got it half right, IMHO. The no stiction thing is great, but they are under the misunderstanding that a reduction of trail under braking is a bad thing. Reduction in trail under braking is the most efficient way for all two wheeled vehicles change direction. Instead the Trust fork increases trail under braking, so as you slow for a turn, with a Trust fork, suddenly the bike does not want to change direction. Stupidest thing in the world. Especially when you consider they could have re tuned the linkage to reduce trail in such a way that they could have made the bike insanely tractable.

The only place where I felt the trust had any value was descending a steep, rocky scree section. The increased trail did make the bike really stable in that situation, but not enough to sacrifice how the bike changes direction the rest of the time.

 

This is a good point, I only rode it on a downhill and pretty much plowed instead of tight weaves.

 

Interesting...that take is the opposite of the reviews I've seen. They all basically indicate that it corners better than any normal fork out there, perhaps that is due to the added stability through the turn? I could see how that would improve cornering in steep or banked turns, but be quite frustrating in quick turns.

I think @flipnidaho mentioned having spent some extended time on a Trust.

 

Cool plates, but I’d be afraid that would attract cops to you more to pulling you over, just to see if you’re drunk.

 

Speaking of, we have early 2000s style silverado locally with a ski masked face over crossed daggers with the text "no face; no case" underneath. Limo tint windows as well. Wanna guess how many cop cars he had behind him on a traffic stop yesterday night?

 

That's probably a good argument to stick with a Pike or Fox 34 on my hardtail, since I'm almost always going to use the enduro sled on rowdy rides.

 

Plus fox fork stuff is a dime a dozen. I'm waiting for a good test of my new Marzocchi Z2 on my new steel hardtail, because I've been led to believe it may actually beat out a 34 in a head to head.

 

I've been keeping an eye out for a deal on Marzocchi as well; really any 130/140mm travel fork. I'm kinda hoping to grab a Pike since I've got lots of time on high-end Fox stuff, but only cheaper Rockshox stuff over the years.
