I waited patiently since last June for my Mobtown aluminum front skid. It arrived last week! Now I have to decide what color I want it. Here is the truck. I hope to keep onthe demon brackets with red shackles. What color should I paint the skid?

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Why not white with pink and purple polka dots?
It's your truck - you should decide - my opinion is worthless.
I once painted the rear diff on my Nova SS with an orange upraised middle finger. But then, I was only 19 at the time.
Seriously - if it's going to get some abuse, paint it whatever color is easiest to touch-up after it gets scraped up.

I just painted mine with black rustproofer, it's easy to touch up when it gets dinged and no one sees my skid plates anyway.

If I painted them with any purpose in mind other than rustproofing, though, I probably would have gone with a nice forest green or mid-grey.

I went down to the local farm supply store and looked at the implement paint. You get to pick from all your major tractor colors and that stuff is cheap, easy to apply, and holds up great. I went with CAT yellow but New Holland blue was a close second.

That's what I did for my bumpers, I went with Massey Ferguson Grey. The stuff does hold up pretty well.

I am lazy and hate the prep work, and it holds up even with my half assed prep. I am surprised more people dont use it.

At first I thought something rational would be best. But then I thought a skid plate would be the only place I'd do something ridiculous, so I came to the comments to say "pink Hello Kitty." But you had the same idea, and now I don't know how to feel.

Not bad. I sort of like the Ford Blue. But would my Taco explode?

Why paint it at all, it’s aluminum.

Aluminum will corrode. The evidence is a white/greyish powder on the surface.

True, it doesn't rust like steel. Steel rust is FeO2 (iron oxide). Aluminum "rust" is AlO2 (aluminum oxide). Different chemicals, but both are forms of corrosion.

The "rust converter" paints have a chemical reaction with the FeO2 to make a paintable surface. This paint does not work on AlO2.

I'd vote for gray if it was a choice.

I sprayed my aluminum mobtown skid with clear automotive spray paint. Keeps the raw look but protects from corrosion.
