I would be concerned about damaging the fishing pole when shutting the tailgate. Looks like it may be an expensive G. Loomis rod as well. I have several expensive one piece rods that I could fit in a tube in my 4Runner but now I'd have to put them at an angle bent in the cab to take them along. My solution is to buy another 2 piece fishing pole. If you know how many fishing poles you own, then you don't own enough. Good luck with whatever you decide.

This is my last 2nd gen, fishing rod post, not going to booger up this great thread. It's a Florida Fishing Products Bull Bay Assault rod, not cheap, but not too much ( I have no affiliation). Best rod I have owned and it has a Stradic 4000 on the end. I would hate to trade it in for a two piece, I know what happens to them when slinging 3oz spoons into an onshore wind, end up going home with a short one piece lol. I don't know how many poles I have but I can assure you it is not enough. that's a good one, peace

Anybody take their lomax through an automatic car wash with brushes and high speed dryers? Any issues? Seems pretty sturdy but I dont want the thing to fly off either!

guess I can tag @GotExhaust for his opinion on this too!

I went ahead and washed it and everything was completely fine for anyone else wondering. Our car wash has 10 heavy duty dryers on exit, nothing moved

Thanks for reporting the results - this means there was no trace of water in the bed as well?

Took mine through an auto bell wash. No problems and no leaks. I have the Lomax Pro diamond plate though, tough stuff and you’re not gonna hurt it with brushes and sprays.

i had water comparable to a normal rain storm but really not much. I just need to do a better job sealing up some larger gaps close to the cab.

Sorry I missed your tag earlier. As you found out there are NO issues using a carwash with air dryers.

The Bulk head where it meets the bed side on the Tacomas can vary from manufacturing. Some universal gasket material added in those areas should help.

I dunno how many of you did it, but my Lomax is not water resistant by any means. I don’t know if I installed it improperly, but if it’s raining outside, it’s raining under the Lomax...just slightly less.

It’s not waterproof and don’t expect it to be. A little water entering is typical. A lot of water getting in is not. There may be some additional things you can do to prevent it, but the basic installation is not completely waterproof. The manufacturer will tell you that as well

I know that and am aware. I must have done the weather stripping incorrectly, because it’s not much less water in there than there is on the outside of the truck when it rains.

If you share a picture of how you have it placed on the bed rails and near the cab, im sure we can rule improper installation in/out.

    I’ll upload.

It’s leaking the most where the bed rails dog leg which is about 10 inches in from the tailgate. Looks like there isn’t enough pressure on the weatherstripping.

Double check your rear bracket orientation. It’s possible to install it flipped from designed orientation. I made that mistake.

Just checked orientation and it is definitely in the correct position. Almost like the supplied weatherstripping wasn’t beefy enough for the gap there where it opens up a little. Any suggestions on a better weatherstripping?

Still a beginner here ( forum ) but I believe I’ve seen in other posts that the specific area you are referencing is a known problem. I haven’t had it out in a soaking rain yet & Luckily I haven’t had the same experience as you but I anticipate having to “beef up” that section of weatherstripping.

Bought the Lomax about two weeks ago from Luke Kyle. I believe I ordered on a Thursday afternoon and it was delivered to El Paso Sunday afternoon. I have the black urethane and the paint completely covered the edges unlike some of the earlier reviews.

Installation was easy but I took my time and I would estimate an hour total. If I had 2nd one to install today, I could probably do it in 15 minutes. As others have mentioned the weather striping needs to be about 1" longer. I just cut it in half and pulled a small amount of stretch on the weather striping while installing to increase the length by 1/2" on each side.

It hasn't rained yet but I did run a hose over it and it let very little water in. It is forecasted to rain the next couple days so I'll see how rain resistant it is.

I've taken my truck to do some serious off roading a couple times since the install and the Lomax cover handles the bumps and jolts of being driven off road hard. I didn't expect it to keep the dust out very well because even the inside of my cab will get a bunch of dust in it by the end of a day of off roading. Some dust did get it but it kept out the dust better than I expected. If I want it to be more rain/dust resistant I do think it would be possible to plug a couple of the bigger holes.

Overall I'm pleased with the cover.
