The Guanajuato plant is the newest, most state of the art Toyota plant in North America. You can Wiki it and read the whole story. I don’t know the status of Baja, but if your Tacoma VIN starts with a “3” you can bet it was built in Guanajuato.

Agree ... very good discussion ...

    This is worth looking at:

"Currently, the Tacoma is built in two manufacturing centers, the first being the aforementioned San Antonio, Texas, facility. The other location is the Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California facility, in Tijuana, Mexico, which has been assembling Tacomas since 2004. The second Mexico-based plant tasked with building the Tacoma is located in Guanajuato, Mexico. That plant’s Tacoma line began running in December of 2019."

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Julia - FWIW, my Taco was assembled in Mexico. I hesitate to say "built" because I expect that many of its components came from elsewhere in the supply chain. These are the various door jamb stickers on my Taco:

This is 100% correct. Toyota is known for its manufacturing capability. They are experts at it and have, in many ways, re-defined how vehicles are manufactured. They break these cars into tight business process and manufacturing process steps -- where each is assessed and monitored. Gone are the days when workers could throw a wrench into the system. They are collecting real time data on what is going on when and where ... and if a vehicle leaves the facility that doesn't meet their standard, it gets traced right back to where the problem occurred and it is corrected. Not saying things don't happen -- they do. But the failure rates have been driven to extremely low numbers.

The process is the same for every plant no matter your truck is made ... so no worries on where it was made or what day it was made ...

As a New Yorker, I still root hard for Texas! Fear not. They will not be making Tacomas in Texas ... but that doesn't mean they won't be making other vehicles there. I think they moved the Tacoma to Mexico (where they are increasing their plant) so they can make the new Tundras in Texas, I think.

Maybe not a ‘wrench’ per say, but I did find a hook knife in the headliner of a VW assembled in Mexico back in the day LMAO still makes me laugh to think someone on the line probably thought ‘where the hell is my knife’ as the 2.slow jetta rolled away down the line.
All these years later, I still have that knife.

Too funny ! I kid you not, a buddy was taking out the dashboard on some Ford (I think an Edge?) and found an empty Fritos bag.

My 2017 starts with a 3, and I believe it was built in Baja, but not sure.

I guess I should have clarified, that if it was built in 2020 it was in Guanajuato, which was not open in 2017.

My Taco was built in Texas....I am sure the Mexican ones are fine since they are built by Toyota and not Chrysler or GM but prefer my Toyota built in the US or Japan personally.

I keep checking the Toyota connect app to see where truck is. I know it hasn't been updated (since Truck hasn't been turned on), it still shows outside of Boeing/Ikea parking lot. Haha. Just hoping for at least ONE pic today :)

I can’t help but wonder... If one trusts Toyota’s reputation for reliability and quality, then it should follow that a company that has been doing it right for this long should be trusted as to where they assemble their vehicles too. I think Toyota knows what their doing regarding quality control. And I can’t help but think, if someone suspects Toyotas built in the US or Japan are statistically better than those made in Mexico (to the point they care about it that much), then why is that? I think I know exactly why, but I’ll just leave it at that.

I am sure happy with the quality and fit and finish on my Baja built 19. I had a few issues early on that the dealer addressed (cig burn hole in pass seat, truck had 2 miles on it) and 2 small dents in roof that pdr guy fixed. Some of the other trucks on the lot had the exact same roof dents, so i think it must have happened during transporting.
My only current issue is a slightly misaligned rear bumper, but not enough to worry about it. Julia hang in there!!! The time will fly and before you know it, the truck will be here. One more thing, do you have someone who can inspect the truck with you? 4 eyes are better than two, and in your excitement, you may not look it over as carefully as someone who doesnt have any skin in the game.

Was negotiating with a Toyota salesman, years ago, to purchase a Tundra. Had an e-mailed quote, on Friday, and said I would be there Saturday to close the deal. Salesman said he was not working Saturday but would let the manager know. I even had a 2nd e-mail, confirming his quoted price because I was concerned his not being there might mean they "lost" the deal. Showed-up on Saturday, after driving 30 miles, only to be told "someone will be with you in a minute". 90 minutes later some guy comes out and starts doing the "4 square" on me and I said "Look, I'm just here to sign the papers and take the truck". Salesman says the guy who I have e-mails from made a "mistake" and they couldn't sell the truck for the quoted price. So I left. D-bag salesman even does the "wait, wait, stop" drama as I'm driving out and says the "owner" agreed to split the difference with me.......LOL. You just walk away. They make trucks every day of the week and there will always be another truck to buy.

Same thing happened when we bought a 2009 Camry for my wife, didn't like the deal, got up and left. Manager chased us to our car (her trade) dropping the price with every step. By the time we were in the car, between the trade going up and the price dropping, we saved $6500.
