I see this as a dealer who couldn't fix the problem and then decided to try to dump it off on an out of state buyer they thought would probably never return. Shady as hell. They knew it was a problem. That's probably why they insisted on selling it as-is.

So I called them today to tell them I had a oil leak now, they said there is no way I can return it, that they will just fix the issues. Called toyota corporate and they said they will open a case and call the dealership to get me in contact with a GM. Mentioned the salesman said I couldn't return it and he said he will get me into contact higher up. Well the dealership called me back and it was just a woman with public relations or something, and said the same thing that I cant return it, only thing I can do is let them fix it. She mentioned I could of asked for the detailed service records when I bought it. I asked her to confirm that they are the ones who serviced the vehicle and she confirmed, but claims they didn't know it still had problems .Also the salesman called me and said the previous owner was ocd or something and kept thinking something was wrong with it so he traded it in. Waiting on lawyer to get back with me to see if I have any options.

Also just so we are clear this is what everyones 3rd gen sounds like? this is a video i took: https://youtu.be/CpNUdps5fkM

Also here is a picture where it is seeping out oil.

Yea I traded in my 2016 camaro ss with 650hp. Cammed, heads, full bolt on, e85 etc, So I am mechanically inclined, probably was thinking they was going to pawn it off on someone who didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. Just wasn't thinking a new tacoma would have these problems and already been broken into by incompetent mechanics.

I'd go to another dealer to get it fixed. That sounds bad

if another Dealer can not fix it take it back to where you bought it and trade it back in. Don't take a cut in value for "problems they can't or won't" identify or correct - tell them it is "normal." You may lose a $ but they have to deal with it not you. Be sure to let them know after you take possession of the new vehicle exactly how you feel about their piss poor customer service. Be sure to leave a can of open Tuna under the seat when you leave the trade-in with them.

Yea might be my only option, I just scheduled a inspection at the toyota dealership here in Chattanooga,TN. I am going to explain the problems and show them the service records from the previous dealership, and explain to them whats going on and see what they come up with.

Have a friend here who speaks highly of them. If nothing else maybe make a deal with them and move on - no tuna for them though. GL. BTW - that engine sounds nothing like my V6 in any way shape or form. Sounds like metal on metal - not normal.

That doesn’t sound like mine. I wouldn’t be driving it for fear of doing serious damage.

Doesn't show it has been on the carfax, but it drives like shit, almost feels like the vibration in the steering wheel is caused by the engine, and I hear a noise when turning, but may be the axles that they are replacing, this truck just seems like a lemon or it was fine and the techs messed it up. They broke hose clips under the engine bay and have tape and zip ties holding them u and on top of that the oil leak. Seems like to many problems for a new truck with this low mileage. Ill see what another dealer says and I will keep calling toyota corporate. I don't trust this truck to be a everyday driver. I have had other trucks and I also have a 97 tacoma with blown out suspension that drives better than this.

Sounds like rod knock. Hard to tell without you blimping the throttle, but oil starvation would cause it. At least, that's what rod knock sounds like in a Miata, dunno if it could be something else here.

Does the noise closely follow the RPM and eventually disappear as RPM increases?

Others might come fwd with similar experiences. You haven’t accused them of anything, just posting what you’re dealing with is totally kosher.

Leave a review on dealerrater and carfax. They 100% read those and it’s a big deal in car sales, straight from sales manager to my ears.

I think there may be legal recourse here, especially if they had the engine open. There's no way the dealer was oblivious to all of these issues, especially with those service tickets. Didn't one of them say that they couldn't fix the issue? They should have disclosed that before making the sale. If it is rod knock, they would have to be pretty incompetent.

Obviously, in a legal setting, the dealer is going to state that they had no idea about the pre-existing issues. However, the fact that they had certified technicians working on it and multiple unresolved issues prior to selling it, might make this difficult for them. My advice is to start recording phone calls that may be useful later.

OP, is there oil on the ground, or is the engine burning it? Hows the dipstick level?

having owned a second gen, which were known to also have vibes, (which mine did) I follow all the vibe threads. On my second gen, a lot of peeps fixed their vibe problems by shimming the carrier bearing, shimming the rear diff angle, or going to a one piece driveline like the video a few pages ago. (Unofficially, more than one tech thought on the second gens it was defective torque converters). On the third gens, it seems to be any of these: Tires that balance well, but are found to be bad anyway by replacing them and the vibes went away, having the rear diff replaced, having the axles replaced, having the drums replaced. Some, like my buddy and his 19, could never be fixed (he had it back in multiple times and at the end, they said sorry, theres nothing else they could do) so he sold it. Heres to hoping the dealer can fix it. My advice, dont mention the word lawyer yet, it may make them hand you your truck back stating that they wont work on it until they contact their lawyer for advice. As for the engine knock, have them start up another 3.5 next to yours and you and the tech compare sounds. Oh, and maybe contact Carmax like someone else said and see what they offer you, you never know...
