I got call from my local dealer telling me that they were prepared to do the fuel pump recall on my 2018 TRD OR and would be happy to make an appointment..which I did for next Monday.

I generally avoid dealerships for most maintenance and have gotten slow service from this one in the past, but kudos to them for taking initiative on this one.

Same reason I don’t like going to the dentist, I go in because one tooth hurts and they comeback with some large quote for root canals on opposite teeth and including new veneers for my dog!

They tried to sell me a battery charge for $60 the other day during my Toyota Care service. I shit you not. I told them that I paid for an alternator when I bought the truck.

My truck goes in for it's first Toyota care services this Saturday morning. I'm going to a dealer in the next town over I been told has a better rep than the one here in York.
We will see if they suggest any crazy stuff. I am going to buy a set of wiper blade refills whilst I'm there to have on hand. I can't imagine what else they would try to sell me at 5000 miles.

Yeah my gosh we would not want improper mat install to cause me to smash in to a Prius or something:rofl:

In the maintenance book that comes with the owners manual thats step one for every service interval.

Didn't that mat thing come from a recall campaign in like 2008 or 2009 where mats were pressing the accelerator pedal in several Toyota models?

I wouldn't even bother taking it in for the 5k, they're going to "rotate" your tires, and check the floor mat. Nothing significant

I would only say it’s a good idea if you plan to sell eventually. It’s good to have on record.

I plan to keep it for ten years maybe more. I know it's only a tire rotation and a few other things checked out besides the floor mats but having a good service history I think is best in case I have any warranty problems. They won't be able to say I never did maintenance. I've already changed the oil a week ago. I have my own book to log it all too.

Nearly all dealers do this during slow time. This is normal.

Make doubly certain that they rotate the air in your tires as well every 5000 miles.

All you guy bashing the dealer techs. What do you do for a living. Are you salary/hourly, or are you paid by the job like we are. Our jobs as techs is to check over EVERY car that comes in. And yes we do make our money off what your car needs. So bashing us for making suggestions as to your maintenance needs is........ well I'll be nice. It would be like me going online and bashing you the cell phone store clerk for trying to sell me the protection plan, phone case, extra charger for the car. We are doing our jobs. And to say on a 5k service we will "rotate" your tires is a false claim. We do all the work that is on the repair order. And yes we change the oil filter when we do your oil changes.

Simple solution, when you bring your truck in for a recall. Tell the adviser that you do not what your truck looked over. Decline the free multi point inspection. Trust me. We would rather know up front and not waste 15 min of our time looking over your truck for you decline everything.

And you all then get on here and complain that Toyota won't help you when your truck is out of warranty, but didn't spend a dime at the dealer. Or you get on here trying to peg help when your truck breaks. IF you all quit refering to us a the "Stealership" maybe the "Stealership" tech that are on here, would offer you some help.

Sorry OP this rant was not directed at you, but to some of the comments made.

My dealer makes appointments for me without asking, they just assume I'll be ready for it. Every once in a while an email shows up that says "your 25,000 mile service is booked for Tuesday at 4:30."

Frankly I'm a little pissed that I'm that predictable. Every once in a while I take it on a cross-country road trip just to mess with their algorithm. And now its starting to predict those too.

@rolled93slc I not trying to be mean to the techs in any way. I understand that your job is to find maintenance and repairs that are needed. Upselling customers has been part of jobs I've done before. I however never let my feeling get hurt by the word no from a customer.
Me as the customer I have the option to say no for whatever reason to the work you proposed in addition to what I came in for. I may want to do it myself or pay any independent mechanic less than the dealership to do the work. In that case I would politely decline.

What is annoying is when dealerships recommend things outside and above of the maintenance schedule the manufacturer prints like a fuel system cleaning service at under 20k miles like i have seen posted here before.
While this was at a chain shop years ago, I had pepboys tell me a car I took in to get new shocks for needed new rear wheel bearings. I had just replaced the bearings 6 months prior with a brake job I did myself. So that was them trying to get more money for unneed repairs, being dishonest hoping I was not keen enough to know better. I wasn't even going to have them shocks installed there but they sold me on a install special at the time.
I do appreciate when the dealership or a shop tech is honest with me. When I feel they are not being honest I let them know and if an issue is not worked out I don't go back.

$60 to charge your battery? I hope you got a written estimate for that. How much do they charge to adjust your mirrors?
