You’re not wrong. I don’t want a boat. But higher powers do so we are compromising and getting a boat.

two best days of owning a boat: the day you buy it and the day you sell it

    :D

Boats are fun though, so long as it’s someone else’s. :D

You mean you are compromising and getting a boat and all the love hate relationship that comes with it.

So the wife wanted: the house, the T4R, a boat...

... and you got a new smoker. Got it.

the balance of powers seems to have swayed towards one side here.

I wanted the house and the T4R too, I mean she picked the 4Runner but I pushed her to get a new one. She’d be happy to keep driving the 2004. But yeah the boat is definitely her idea.

My FIL gave me his 1993 Sea Nymph FM161 16’ bass boat four years ago.

I pay $140/yr for insurance and $17/yr county taxes.

It’s done the same thing for me the past four years that it did for him, take up space in my garage....well storage currently.

guess it’s different if you live on the lake. You’re kinda obligated to own a boat at that point.

Yeah, tbf if I lived on a lake I’m sure it’d get it’s use. The thought of dragging that thing out to Norman or High Rock in my 3.4L, getting it off and on a trailer just never end up getting the motivation to do it. Once the BIL buys a house it’s gonna be gifted over to him.

When I lived on the lake I rented a boat. When I lived near the ocean I owned a boat. The boat on the lake was for entertaining during the summer. The boat near the ocean was for fishing.

Why are you insuring it??? Is it registered??? If so and you aren't using it stop registering and then the property taxes stop. I've never insured a boat and only payed taxes on the ones I registered and used. If they didn't get use they didn't cost me a thing but space.

I’ve got a coworker in Jacksonville, FL that was telling me about some boat rental club he’s in. You pay a monthly fee and you can take out whatever they have available in their fleet. Just reserve it ahead of time. They have multiple locations. They take care of maintenance, storage, fuel, registration etc...you get to enjoy the boat.

That’s the way to do it if you’re not waterfront.

yep. What’s the saying? If it flies floats or fucks it’s cheaper to rent...or something like that.

 I took my little 19ft boat to the lake with my mighty 4 banger ford ranger. Your truck can take that little boat easily

Problem with renting is you still have to go to the boat. We will likely use this more days than not in the summer, she has 16 weeks maternity leave starting in June. Both WFH too so lunches out on the boat when it’s nice during the week isn’t out of the question either. I don’t want to spend the money, but I do think we will get use out of it.
And we’ve already got the dock (though it needs work) and lift.
