 Thank you, I appreciate the insight. Stoked to get time to burn this in. It's turning out far better than I imagined.

Opened up the panel, but I have four wires, one to neutral one to ground, red and black. If I’m understanding correctly I have to remove the neutral. Also I can’t tell the gauge of the wire it’s deffinitly thicker than the rest though just can’t read enough of the outside to tell. It’s also only 12 or so ft from the box the outlet. I can leave the 30 amp breaker, and have to replace the outlet to a 50 amp? Then I’m all set to use it at no more than 150 amps?

if you have four wires at the outlet, I’d just replace it with a four prong NEMA 14-50 outlet and make an adapter pigtail for the welder. IMHO that gives the greatest flexibility if you end up with other 240V devices with different plugs.

Do you need 50amp continuous? Not at my computer so not easy to scroll up to prior posts.

A 30a breaker will allow slightly more current for brief periods. What’s the welder say is max current draw and duty cycle?

Everything looks good in the box. Leave the neutral connected. Replace the outlet with a 50amp 4 prong and you should be good to go. Judging by the looks of how the box is done I would wager that the wire is 10 gauge, however if you are concerned you could measure the wires with a caliper/micrometer when you change the outlet. 10 gauge should measure out to be 0.102 inches.

    I agree. It looks like 10 g.

As smooth as those bends are, I don't think you could accomplish that with 8 g. I think 8 g would have a a harder time fitting under those lugs as well .

Wire gauge will also be printed on the outside of the romex, if accessible to read it.

pinnacle premier is a welding wire. Pinnacle is the brand. Premier is the line. I don’t know too much about it, but there’s a few guys who’s welding I’ve followed for as long as I’ve been welding and they swear by it. I don’t think it’ll make much if any difference, but when paying Lincoln super-arc prices it’s worth giving it a try.

Can almost make it out here...

Looks more like 12 AWG to me. Those 15A circuits above are probably 14 AWG...

It is just tacked and the panels where just mocked up with some magnetic clamps. Just so I can see what it looked like.

Not sure if I am happy with my workmanship on this. But it was alot learning and first time bending tube. So a steep learning curve.

Been getting real tired of the squirrels/raccoons eating through our plastic gravity fed corn feeders, so I threw this one together out of some 16 gauge steel. I still need to weld a hasp on and make the mounting points for the ratchet straps to hold it to the tree. Looking to get 60lbs of corn in this one as opposed to the 40 that the plastic ones hold. If this one works, I’m going to build more out of aluminum.

I'm not an electrician, but is that doubble tap on the breaker allowed where your at? I say this because some shady "electrician" doubble tapped one of my breakers and its a strict NO NO up here. I'm allowed to use a marette and make a pig tail to go to a breaker.

not saying its right or wrong ( really depends on the electrical code in your area) but I'd hate to see something bad happen in the future and you get denied insurance when it could have been easily fixed.
