Rear TSB with stock shocks

Got the TSB done a couple weeks ago, I did not upgrade the shocks going to leave the stock ones on untill they fail. Unless some one knows for sure that they will not hadle what the truck is rated at load wise.

I got the leaf spring TSB done yesterday. I'm sticking with the stock front shocks too on my Off-Road. Sits a butt hair higher in the back, but I think it looks good.

 

You have the Sport model w/ the blue/yellow blisteins stock correct? Those are a good shock unless you want another setup, some put 5100 series at all four corners or just ones up front to level it out.

I didn't think Toyota was swapping out shocks anymore on the newer models. When I had mine done it was a non-trd & toyota put the blue/yellow blisteins. They aren't doing that anymore either per the TSB.

I have hauled plenty of wet bulk mulch & compost in the bed with no issues.

 

Got the tsb and only upgraded the front shocks to the billy's @ .85 to level it out.

left the rear shocks stock,

hell the ass end is so light the stock shocks are probably over kill.

Yes TRD has the stock blue and yellow blistens. I figured they were good enough. But with everyone on here putting 5100's on, I was confused as to if it was just to level, or some other reason.

I belive the truck looks fine, I have only about 60 lbs in the bed when I took the pics in the orig post as I just got the truck back from having the TSB done. I have between 250 and 300 lbs back there now and thats about what it will normally have.

The TSB doesn't give you the 5100s. They would give you the TRD off road billies, which aren't 5100s.

 

I know I was just saying to get 5100's and the (free) tsb to help level out the back

 

No, they're not FREE.

The TSB is only FREE when you're still under the factory warrantee.

 

I just put 4 5100s on after the tsb was done last year. I put the front at .85 which raised it an inch and looks exactly level. I did it for the looks but what I didn't expect was the dramatic improvement in ride quality. The TRD shocks rode awesome I thought and had many compliments from passengers on how well it rode. The new 5100s are even better. In fact it rides almost like my father-in-laws GX470.

 

So if I Add A leaf on my 05 tacoma thats pretty much a rear TSB correct? or do i have the replace the whole leaf pack. I still have the stock 3 leaf in the rear.

 

Not always....

If the problem you have (that the TSB fixes) is covered by warranty yes it is.

If warranty has expired then no it is not.

Not sure whether to add 5100's or not. Planning on adding a camper shell and I don't want to end up nose high.

 

Just adding 5100's won't raise the front of your truck. They're adjustable, which is how people are using them for a lift. You can keep 'em at 0 and you'll be stock height in the front still.

 

I was thinking .85 to level and didn't know if 5100's at 0 were worth the $285 over stock TRD Bilsteins.... The truck measures 2" higher in the back but looks more level than that to me so I am not sure what to do yet

 

I'll go to 5100's when my stock shocks go out. I don't know about spending the money just to swap them out to keep them at 0. A shell isn't really that heavy, only a couple hundred pounds. It shouldn't squat the truck much, especially if you've had the TSB completed, at least it didn't seem to do much to mine. FWIW, I've heard the 5100's help the ride pretty significantly, even set at 0.
