I've only used it once (got it mid-December) and overall it was warm enough. Lots of condensation though. Packed myself, girlfriend, and 90 pound dog in there with a ton of blankets and it was warm enough. It was about 25 degrees or so which didn't help. Been looking into some heater options for next winter if I decide to do more winter camping, but for now the tent is in the garage staying dry until spring.

I finally saw a video on IG of how the CVT Shasta Hybrid cover works - no zippers - just elastic gathers pulled down and over the whole tent assembly. While I like the idea of no longer having to fumble with the zipper, does anyone have experience with how well the elastic gathers perform keeping water and dust out?

And if this does work well, any reason other tent manufacturers of this same type of softshell tent couldn't create a similar solution - one that could be re-fitted to older models with a zipped cover?

I appreciate it thank you. I think I’ll just pay the extra $200. Seems like the quality of the material is worth it.

cvt site doesnt have any pictures of the tent closed, but i thought the bottom part that has the racks was exposed to when closed. where a normal soft shell has a rubber-style cover that goes over everything then zips.

ikamper had one for awhile but discontinued it.

For some reasons getting pics and video of how the hybrid system works is like spotting bigfoot. You would think if they had a good system they would be shining as bright a light as possible on it.

Anyhow, with the new CVT system, the zippers and full cover are gone. In it's place is a cover, which is fastened around the edge of the top floor plate which pulls down and slips over the bottom floor plate with what looks like elastic gathers. Not sure what the new cover material is made from, since I would think the normal rubber material would be too stiff to "gather."

IKamper still sells the Xcover, which has a similar system with velcro attaching the pull down cover (I think). What IKamper cancelled was the IKamper mini, which is a version that would fit on a bedrack (a shame, because that looked like a good option).

Has anyone replaced their foam matress with something else or really another foam mattress upgrade/replacement? Specifically, I got the SmittyBilt Overlander that has a 3 inch foam mattress that feels nearly non existent. Was thinking replacing with a 4 inch that will still allow the tent to close relatively easily. T

Some of us replaced the mattress with the exped megamat. There’s a couple of sizes.

I actually looked at that first time around before adding my regular camp sleeping pads. How does it do inside the tent when you fold up? The size should be good as far as being able to deflate.

No issues at all. I set it to deflate and fold the tent up like normal.

I added 2" memory foam topped to original folding mattress and worked well. But i've since bought an EXPED and its game changing.

I plan on switching to the EXPED but it has had to take a number and stand in line with the rest of the things I need to pay for. :D

Just to echo... I also just picked up an Exped Megamat to use with my iKamper. Just got here a few days ago so I haven't had a chance to test it but I'm hopeful this will let me sleep on my side a little more comfortably.

I'm confident that while deflated I can fold it over and close the tent no problem.

What size Exped Megamats are you guys using with those who have an "iKamper Skycamp Mini" sized hard shell RTT? AKA a Queen Size Mattress size? Are you guys doubling up with 2 of their smaller matts? I'm not seeing anything that Exped offers that's in the ~60"x80" range

    Exped Megamat Duo Medium.

It's as wide as will fit the narrower foldout shelf portion of the tent. There will be some uncovered areas on each side of the larger floor portion.

Exped is a game changer as has been mentioned above. I have a single now and another on the way for my son.

Can’t wait to use mine again. That’s how good Exped is.

Oh okay, thank you. Wasn't sure if you guys used 1 big one or 2 smaller ones, thanks for the info.
