I was gonna add asshoel pleco as a distinct possibility- had em, didn’t like!
But you beat me too it.
Lotta folks don’t do it right tho, so it’s nice to hear your tank was well set up

    Edit: very nicely set up!

My theory is that one of the angels died and he found in on the bottom and ended up getting a taste for them so he started going after live ones.

... just following that line of thought, animals (esp predators) can detect and home in on any weak individuals, further stressing/weakening said individual, and Bob’s your uncle.
Plecos are quite smart so I would not put it past them.
Plecs are nocturnal and will do terrible things at night too.

I honestly wouldn’t mind if all the angels died at this point. They’re pretty stable now but I’m used to African cichlids and have never dealt with all the bullshit.

If I could introduce discus and keep them I’d change my mind quick though

You interested in frontosas? I’m wanting to start fresh again with a new batch. I have around 12 Mpwimbe frontosas that range anywhere from 5-12” in length.

I like discus a lot, but they should have soft acidic water and that is a a pain to create.
I would keep them if my water supply matched better, but I get fairly hard alkaline water from the tap.
If I went through the trouble of ro/di’ing my aquarium water, I would go back to reefing lol.

I was thinking the same. Trying discus would be about the same as saltwater

They would be a good start, really like the frontosas. Those are huge, probably bigger than I’d want to start and add to.

You guys know there's a thing called pH Down, right? Discus are no harder than angels and get along quite well.

I have had them for about four years now and started out as fry. They are great, but hard to find other fish that can be with them that size.

Anyone have experience with resiliconing a tank? Woke up this morning to find a wet dining room floor. (Drip location captured in potato photo) This tank is an old used 125 gal I picked up 10 years ago. Mystery chip in the corner and kind like a sloppy dab of silicone from who knows where. Maybe it was a time bomb, and maybe the leak isn't even coming from here. I won't be able to find it until I drain and dry it.

Question is, would it be worth it to attempt the repair, or do I head to the nearest petsmart and pick up a replacement for 650?

    Stock again- rip slug

IF its 10 years old id replace anyways. Not worth patching that then having it bust in another couple months anyways from age and wear

I have a 55 gall dated from 2008 with silicone looking just as tired. Gonna replace this black friday preventively before the inevitable.

I bought it used 10 years ago. Silicon was well worn when I bought it, and its been through 2 moves since. I guess its time to replace.

Now comes the debate on replacing or having an awkward empty spot in my house. :(

I hope not. Talked to four local fish shops - there are two 125'ers left in town, both aqueon brand. One is at petsmart for 650, includes a shit particle board stand. One is at a local shop, 400, but no glass top and my tops wont fit it. One guy didnt seem too concerned about the chip either, he said he would just scrape and replace the silicon.

I'm thinking petsmart route at this point and craigslisting a 125 gal terrarium.

Not hard to do. Scrape all the old silicone out from the inside (have to drain the entire tank and what not. Then add some silicone to the corners on every piece that is attached to one another, let it dry, and good to go. I have done a few and it is much cheaper than getting ripped off buying a new tank for sure.
