How to Drain/Refill Automatic Transmission

you can take the jumper out once you're in check mode and it will run normally. stays in check mode until truck is turned off.

 

stick the wire into each hole, turn on the truck, do the procedure, then you can remove the jumper if you choose.

I will plan to perform this drain & fill task on my 2007 with 148k miles very soon.
Anything I should keep in mind other than the tips and comments already mentioned by others?
Should I take a peek at my filter, or just keep to the pan magnets?

I would also like to note: I cannot confirm if my ATF fluid has been changed before. Will have to refer to my maintenance records from previous owner.
If there is no record of previous change, I plan to perform this drain & fill a few times, perhaps at 30k intervals.

 

You have to remove the pan to get to both, so in makes sense to do both.

 

Ah, that's true! My brain isn't working too well this morning I suppose.

 

so this procedure would basically be the same if I were dropping the pan and replacing the screen, I would just be adding a little more fluid? should I replace my pan bolts? there is no local Toyota dealership so big box screen and gaskets should be good? My trans fluid was changed at 40,000 miles by jiffy lube and it now has 109,000 miles so its def due.

 

Yep....and I see no reason to replace the pan bolts

 

So what do we do if we don't have an at temp light?

Yes I have an auto, light never lights up

 

Added a squirt of atf fluid and put it all up for today, no AT temp light when I start my truck or when I jump the wire and shift 6 times between N and D. I even let it idle for 20 mins, stupid design...

 

If it was chilly out, might take longer than 20 minutes to get up to temp

 

Made it to 73 here in Florida today even with the rain, main problem is I never see the AT temp light. It doesn't even come on for 2 seconds when I jump the OBD2.

 

Does anyone know if the temperature can be read by a scan tool? I have the BAFX bluetooth scanner and Torque lite already but it's not on there, if I buy and download Torque pro will I be able to read the transmission temp?

 

Something isn't right with the initialization of the A/T check sequence.

Verify you are jumping the correct pins in the OBD port. IIRC, its pins #4 and #13. This should cause the dashboard to go "crazy" with lights.
Then follow the sequence.

Remember, the shifts are each counted......N to D =1, D to N=2........so on and so forth. Note: the A/T may not light after this shift sequence.

 

Yes temps can be read, i have the ultragauge.

Not sure on the torque pro

 

Followed this exact sequence, got the funky lights but no AT light. Ill try again tomorrow

 

Thanks of I can't get it to work right like the instructions on this thread I'll just buy the Torque pro and use the temp on the OBD2 reading

 

You may need to wait a bit after you complete the sequence.

My A/T light did not come on to confirm the sequence. I tried several times. Then I decided to just wait. After about 15 minutes, the A/T began to flicker, then another minute it became solid. I checked fluid level at this point.

 

Thanks I'll try it again tomorrow, I did wait 20 mins but maybe it wasn't long enough.
