Anything the bleed brakes? Too involved for camp? If you have a reverb, a bleed kit for that is a must.

What about a tube/boot/extra tire if you rip a side wall? If you're going real tech maybe an extra rotor, they're flat enough to fit.

Pins for pedals if you're on flats?

Torque wrench isn't super necessary, but could be nice to have. Electrical tape? IDK that just always ends up being used somewhere.

A rag could probably be pulled from where else, but giving the steed a good wipe is always nice

Plenty of rags in the truck tools box next to it.

Bleed kit is way too much for a ride saver kit, my droppers are all cable actuated, so the packed shift cable can save that as well.

Have a tube and boot for each bike in the frame bag so set there. Ripping a tire is a potential concern, but only had to deal with that once thankfully, and @ginseng27 was johnny on the spot with a spare he had. Not the norm though.

Electrical tape diesnt really have a place on my bikes, but zipties do and I have plenty of those.

Me too. Looks good from a normal distance but any closer and you can see the resolution isn't that good, which kind of stinks but oh well.

Any of you running a tailgate pad, also have a tool box in the bed? Not wondering about space since I have a long bed, but more so trying to make a decision. Either standard tool box that mounts on bedside, or a tool box that sits under the bed height so I could also get a tonneau cover of some kind that I could roll/fold up when putting the bike on the tailgate or to access the tool box.

I rode the shoulder, 6 feet of shoulder is plenty of space for me to feel safe. It's the roads with no shoulder where road biking gets scary. I always have a rear flashing light and, knock on wood, after 25k road miles I've never been hit

It’s not a direct answer to your question as I don’t have a tailgate pad, but some of the smaller tool boxes are pretty handy.

I’ve got this little Rigid box as my truck tool box. It’s pretty weather resistant, can be locked/secured, and can be positioned anywhere you like in the bed.

It’s not huge but it holds all the junk I need and doesn’t waste space.

Yeah I definitely don’t have to have anything amazing. I want to get some stuff out of the backseat of the truck, and a couple things out of the garage but that’s it. I just can’t decide between my options I’ve narrowed it down to.

    1. Standard bedrail toolbox, easy access from bedside, good space, affordable, allows me to store boards/plywood/etc underneath the box.

    2. Smaller tool box, with a tonneau cover. Waterproof storage for whole bed, roll up design to allow full bed access, hard to get to tool box, benefit of added security “out of sight out of mind”, but more expensive to go this route. Tonneau might not mount with tailgate pad

Most of Colorado fun trails are shared with Motos. It's fine, I've run into them lots of times and no issues.

Agreed. Ebikes good, uneducated people on ebikes are no good.

Lol... Truth be told, I'd be totally fine if they disappeared for everyone. But, they are here, and here to stay. Education and discussion is the way forward. I think we all agree that the tool isn't the problem, as much as how they are used. They aren't really mountain bikes. They aren't really motos. They are their own thing, and as such need different types of trails, or at least directional ones.
I try to think back to how people felt when MTB first started being allowed on hiking trails. Same arguments, "too fast, collisions likely, rip up the trails, etc.." But with time, advocacy, and education, we are part of the trails now. And not all people are happy with that either...

I like it a lot. Seems like it pedals/climbs better than my previous ST.

I agree. I don't like them, but me not liking them doesn't change anything. The thing that helped save MTB was the construction of new trails (which took a lot of years). When MTBs first came on the scene (I bought my first MTB in 1987 I think) the only place to ride was on hiking trails (and talk about user conflicts, oy). And most hiking trails were terrible, especially on those old bikes. New trail construction has made MTB infinitely better than any of us could have imaged back in the '80s.

I think a lot of the eMTB grief could be resolved the same way. More directional trails would be a big first step because it would prevent a lot of the conflict. However, I've found because the average eMTB rider isn't as skilled, they tend to go down the typical climbing trail, and up the typical desendy trails. Combine them with the fundamental riding differences between the XC guys (Spandex Militia) and the Enduro guys (BroDuro). I climb to descend. They climb to climb, and only descend because they have no choice.

A popular loop here, Flying Dog, ride in anticlockwise and it's an amazing flow trail, but the XC guys insist on riding it clockwise because it's a burly climb, and there are always close calls on the trail because of it. Every attempt to make it directional, or even alternate on even/odd days have failed because the Spandex Militia wants to climb and they pitch a fit if anybody suggests otherwise.

So, potentially, three distinct groups who have very different ideas on what a trail should be. And only so much space for trails.... So, again, another topic that will cause derision.

I’ve carried a small wad of duct tape in my pack for years and on a ride last summer a buddy sliced his sidewall on some glass and the gash was so large (lol) that the tube was prolapsed (also lol). Brought out my crusty wad and reinforced the damaged area, filled the tube up and we finished the ride. It takes up no space and doesn’t weigh much.

My light mount is pretty fussy and a few rounds of e-tape saves my carbon bar from being marred up. It’s also a small chain stay protector on my gravel bike. And the draft-stopper on my road shoes during the cold months. All the tape!!!!

Duct tape is mandatory for all outdoor sports. I’ve also used cash to reinforce sidewall tears.

Nice looking rig you got there. I purchased my first full suspension last year after 25+ years of hardtails and love it. Hope you like yours.
