You going to purchase your pass?

(Holy post revival, Batman!... OK, now that that's out of the way....)

I have flat pedals, clipless, hybrid, etc. .And cycling shoes to match. I was thinking of flats with the hard-soled cycling shoes, but seems that isn't a good combo.

What are good shoes to use with the platform pedals? I have absolutely flat feet, wide as well. I'd like to be able to walk and not be crippled for a few days after, in event of a mechanical bad enough I have to hike a bike.

im impressed you quoted a post from 3/4 years ago.

5.10s are still the go to. those and some decent pedals work.

i have some ride concepts, didnt wanna drink the kool-aid, kinda wishing i did though. my ride concepts and forte pedals aren't a good combination. friends with the same pedals and 5.10s dont complain though. other friend with ride concepts and some race face chesters like that combo. so maybe its just the fortes and rc that dont work

I have Ride concepts Hellions and Spank oozy trail pedals and love the combo. I have not tried the 5.10's because like you I didn't want to drink the Kool-aid but so far I'm happy.

Addidas bought 5/10 so you can get the addidas version of the same shoe for a better price (typically)

I’d you’re not keen on 5.10 then might I suggest Vans Pro bmx shoes? I came from 5.10s and I’m on my second pair of Vans and find them quite decent indeed. Gotta get the pros vs the regular Vans because they have a stiffer sole and the proper waffles. It’s all about the waffles.
No sore feet and grip for days.

This is actually awesome. I am a child of the 80's and was just the other day thinking about grabbing a pair of Vans for the retro aspect.

Welp survived my first clipless ride... only tipped over once on the fire road before the trail started. Went to stop unclipped my right foot then as I came to a stop realized the left side was higher... proceeded to lay it down without being able unclip :anonymous: sucks to suck.

Only way I could get shoes to clip in was to pull the front pins out of the pedals..which did not seem to matter at all once clipped.
Went down one of the chunkiest trails around was nice not losing any pedals or worrying about foot placement.

It was crazy how much more gassed I was going up the climbs just thinking about having to clip out and not send the body. The ability to pull up is also pretty cool. Looking forward to more seat time and getting them dialed in.

Obv you'll get better at this over time. I find myself clipping out before big rock gardens I know are 50/50 if I'll make it. Benefit of platform clips like you have.

Not my favourite colour option but these are the one, reinforced toe area, strong sole and grippy. Also like 50-60 less than mtb shoes. Find em in a checkerboard/hightop combo with some stripey tube socks and jorts...ballin’

    ARC's are so dang cool.

I've been toying with the idea of replacing my Chameleon with an ARC or go all in on an Epic when they are available again.

yea for sure a few times I was having issues getting foot clipped and was still fine to ride. Was basically equivalent to not having foot in the right placement on flats. It's a total mind fuck being clipped in on a tech/steep climb. My biggest thing on the platforms was I wanted to be able to ride the bike without having to have special shoes on.

I am impressed you pulled an old quote of mine too, and that it has held up over time.

I still have 5.10 pre Adidas that are great, but I can not speak to the newest generation of stuff. I also have big wide feet [12-13 and wide] and still use a pair of Freeride 5.10 shoes. I am currently in 13 wide Keen steel toes at work if that gives any indication of my feet size in comparison.

Always a plus to be able to manage a ride around the block sans shoes.

One disadvantage of clipping out prematurely is that a few times I've realyl had to mash on the pedals to make up for wrong foot position, and end up clipping myself back in at exactly the wrong time
