Oh...And the Dysons claim to "Never plugs up" is BS. Thier vacs. still use filters, and they all plug up, need to be replaced or cleaned. Its a PITA to get to them.

Forget all those other vacs...go with a ProTeam backpack vac. Its pure suction so no beater bar messing up your carpet and they are super light! and very dependable! They come in different sizes too!

We have the Dyson. I love the bagless cannister, no paying for sweeper bags just put the cannister into an old walmart bag squeeze the release button and the crap falls out. Tie the bag up..no mess no fuss

My girlfriend has 4 cats that shed like a mofo. we have gone through a few vacuums trying to keep up with the pet hair & crap. She finally threw the cash down on a dyson, and it has been awesome. I've only had 1 problem with it - one of the tabs that holds the hose onto the handle broke. The store gave us a brand new one in exchange with no questions asked. Lifetime warranty through bed bath & beyond. (or linens & things? i can keep up with these stores, its one of them)

It looks like Dyson and Orek seem to be most popular amongst the crowd. My wife is convinced that the Dyson is FTW b/c all her family has them but I'm not so convinced.

Chris is definatley offering the most knowledge thus far...must be pretty experienced in this dept. I've also been advised of the benefit of less dust useing bags. I certainly don't want to make an impulse buy on something I use twice a week!

    Nice videos btw Chris

We just got the dyson dc25 animal. It honestly is the most impressive vacuum I've used yet. We bought it at kohls on black friday. It was on sale for 399 plus I found an online coupon for 20% off with free shipping.

Thanks :) I actually DID do alot of research on this, as Im not one to fall for advertising BS. Im fortunate, in that I have an Orek dealer nearby, and was able to compare, side by side, many vacuums. I was sick and tired of going thru these things every year, or sooner. I was really disapointed in the Dysons, aas they advertise like mad, and claim to be the best, bla bla bla. Come to find out, while they DO work well, other vacs. out there are simply better. Also, Popular Mechanics did some tests a while back, and had the same conclusions I came to. As far as the best constructed/durable vacs out there, The Kirby vacs are bullit proof. Next would be the Orek, as they use some nice materials, and have real wood carpet brush (As does the Hoover). The Hoover is very well constructed, as good as the Orek, but the canister has a clip to hold some of the tools, and it feels cheap. Mine hasnt broken or anything, but....it just feels like it could. Another thing to note.....The canister you get with the Hoover (its a 2 vac for 1 deal) sucks WAY better than the ones you get with the Oreks. I was using it to suck crumbs off of my counter tops, and it sucked up a bread bag, and 2 slices of bread before I could turn the thing off.

Just got rid of our Kenmore bagged upright for a Dyson DC28 Animal. the Kenmore did OK, but with 2 dogs, the bags would start to smell pretty fast. The Dyson needs to be emptied fairly often, but it picks up WAY more than the old vacuum. Shocking just how much came up from our "clean" carpets. The canister is a little small, but is easy yo empty, just push a thumb operated button and the bottom opens to empty in the trash. I'd rather empty it a few times than have 3 pounds of bulldog hair stinking up the closet from the HEPA bag on the old vacuum. Haven't tried the Hoover that Chris mentioned, but it's silver and silver things are silly.

What are the warranties on each brand?? I know dyson is 5 years but don't know others.

I'm impressed with dyson so far. No loss of suction and how the hose pulls out is cool. Bagless and so simple to empty.

My cousin has a kirby. It works awesome but expensive and fugly imo

    .

We have 2 Dysons (upright & canister models) and love both of them.

When we got the first one (upright) we went over a previously cleaned (carpeted) area and picked up a lot more dust & dirt.

Note: On Dysons ... IF the "Carpet Selector" is not set properly, the machine will not vacuum well ... this is very important on the uprights.

PS ... I joke that if I had to leave in a hurry ... grab the dog, the Tacoma, the Dyson and the Sleep By Number Bed and run ... :D

My Kenmore was and may still be rated best, but the Dyson blows it away.
