I siped the mud tires on the Bronco myself. If you google it, you'll find all kinds of info on it. Many argue it is better than machine siping. Machines sipe a consistent distance apart regardless of lug location. You'll end up with sipes within a 1/4" of the edge of a lug. Those break off easy when wheeling. When you do it yourself, you can keep all of the sipes centered within each lug and leave a half inch "shoulder" at the front and back of each lug to prevent chunking. I used a box cutter on the shallowest setting so the cuts were only about an 1/8" deep. I had the whole job done on big ass 35x12.5's done in less than 2 hours.

you don't have to be ballin.... just have the knowledge to fix it...... I've actually only broken my rear diff and that was because it had a leak and ran dry..... other than that it's just been injectors that went out.... Driving in the snow or rain is just as easy as driving in the dry weather..... some people just freak out when they get a little wheel spin.... trust me man...your truck is no where near as powerful as mine is and I have bald tires plus a stage 4 clutch..... it's all in the driver.....

I've been thinking of doing it myself it doesn't seem difficult to do, i'm a fan of siping but it seems many think that it will cause some major problems with tread wear. i'll probably swing by home depo and pick up some razors and get it done myself this weekend.

Famous last words of a cocky, little shit that's about to wreck his truck in winter conditions.:)

Can winter driving be done well? Yes, absolutely if the driver knows what he or she is doing.

    Just as easy? Absolutely not.

Is bald tires, a shit ton of HP, and 2wd is just as good as anything else in winter conditions? Hell no! Honestly, we all know that's bull shit but somebody out there is going to be stupid enough to believe you and die, or kill someone else, because of it.

You ever want to race in shitty ass winter roads, count me in. I'll have my winch soon. I'll gladly help pull your wrecked ass out of the ditch.

Like I said, I had no problem doing it in just a couple of hours (those tires had twice the rubber to cut compared to what we're running). I did it mid winter. I drove right before and right after on crappy roads. The difference was immediately noticeable. If you research it, you'll see they say it actually slows wear by reducing heat (more surface to dissipate heat and less drag) and allowing the blocks to conform to the road better. I drove about two years on them and didn't notice particularly fast or slow wear. It just seemed normal. If you choose to go that route, take your time and be careful. Let me know if you have any questions. I didn't even take the tires off the truck. I just did the top third, rolled the truck back a little, did the top third, rolled back again, then finished the last third. I think I used a blade for the first third, flipped it in the box cutter to the other side for the next third, then put in a new blade for the last third.

lol that must've been a pain in the ass to fix.

Wheel spin sucks for me since i live on a steep incline, i'll tell you no 2wd vehicle be it FWD or RWD(even some AWD, but its all women drivers with the subarus around here) makes it up when the snow hits, hence the reason my whole family owns AWD and 4WD vehicles. I dont have any experience driving a boost runner but i've driven a 5.7 tundra over in colorado when last years storm hit with no issues, tires were rugged fails(35,000miles on them, pretty much bald..inside of the tire was completely flat..due to bad alignment) that came stock never need to pop it in 4wd..maybe i'm just more cautious but its better to be safe than sorry.

Who knows maybe you might set the bar for best RWD in snow and ice

Plain old box cutter on the lowest setting where the blade was sticking out only about an 1/8". After having some winter troubles with those tires I started researching the Internet about siping. I planned to have it done then stumbled across sites with people talking about doing it themselves. Race teams have always done it themselves, etc. I thought I needed one of these heated siping guns you can buy but I also saw a lot of people were just using razors. I decided to go outside and give it a shot. I just tried it on a block or two just to see if the blade worked or not. It was easy and worked great. I went out that weekend and finished.

    Cut center lugs
    Depth 1/8inch?
    space sipes 1/4 inches?
    am i missing anything?

Sounds pretty much right. There are a few things for you to consider before you start cutting though. I did 1/8" depth, a 1/4" apart. I never went closer than about 1/2" from the front or back of each block to prevent chunking (For example, if the block was 2" long, I had a 1/2" untouched at the front, then the middle inch was siped every 1/4", and a 1/2" untouched at the back.)

A decision to make is the angles of your cuts. You could cut perpendicular to the roll (which is what I did). The lines follow a paddle tire idea. It provided best traction for accelerating and braking. You could do an angled or parallel to the roll siping that would probably benefit steering a little more. I suppose you could even alternate lugs perpendicular/angled in search of the best of both worlds.

I think I only cut the middle two rows of lugs and left the outside rows untouched. I can't remember though, I do remember going back and forth on whether or not to do the outsides. Just can't recall what I actually decided on. I might have even done the mid rows first, decided I liked it and did the outer rows the following weekend. I don't know. Oh well. Senior moment.

Interesting side note, I later had a flat caused by sidewall damage. Discount Tire honored my warranty and replaced it at the expected pro-rated price. They didn't sweat my "modified" tires and try to rip me on the warranty. I can't say your tire place will do the same. You might want to call them and ask.

Bahahaha..... I've driven in the worst conditions possible man..... I can handle my own when I drive.... Not worried one bit..... I bet you will wreck your taco before I do in bad weather conditions that is how experienced I am in bad weather man.... I was saying that it's harder to drive my truck because of the mods I have done to it....

bahahaha possibly...... but no.... I just hate people that complain about a little bit of snow.... we got quite a bit where I live but some people just can't take it and they get to cautious which can actually get to the point to where it is unsafe..... not saying you are like that but for those other nm drivers that are.... I hate them.... makes the roads worse for us....

Well damn, we've got some bad mo fo's here in NM! Ramon's rice rocket can out grip a snow cat on ice and David's truck can out climb a hybrid between a rock buggy and an M-1 Abrams tank. "I bet you will wreck your taco before I do in bad weather conditions that is how experienced I am in bad weather man..." Bahahahaha, my bullshit meter is spiking. Son, I've probably been driving in shit ass weather longer than you've been alive. No, years of experience is everything. I admit there are people with tons of experience that suck at driving. Just please don't assume you're the only person in the world with skills. You're only setting yourself up for failure.

BTW, I'm not getting pissed. I'm enjoying the banter in good fun.
