So true, I played Defense from 17 till i moved to Tahoe. I got a set of goalie pads for a good deal about 10 years ago just to use for practice. That was a mistake. I sat in 1 game and got destroyed.
Playing D I took a shot off my face about 6 years ago. Only about 50mph ripped a hole through my upper lip. My wife was so pissed now I have to ware a cage.

ouch, yeah I saw a guy a couple years ago have a similar thing happen, puck to the face in the same area and his back teeth tore right through his cheek and had to get a bunch of stitches.

Worst injury I saw was in travel hockey, kid got hit from behind and went head first into the boards and broke his neck. Was paralyzed after that. All 18 and under leagues had to wear little stop signs sewn into the back side of their jerseys to remind players not to check anyone from behind.

 

Then there was my teammate who had the heart attack on the ice last year, that was actually the last game I played before covid. Not really a play related injury I guess but that was brutal to see.

That sux, some people take pickup and bear league way to serious. I was just happy not to loose teeth.

Same here, I can barely see the mountains from my back door at work

 

Haven't had the chance to yet, that was the last game we had before the rink shut down due to Covid and hasn't opened back up since...at this point I dunno if it will, which is shitty.

He's doing good though, we've had a couple team zoom meet ups. Thought for sure he was a goner there on the ice, turned as purple as a prune and it took a good 10 min for EMTs to arrive. A guy on our team did CPR on him though before they arrived and definitely saved his life. I'm not sure if he'd be cleared to play again or not, was weird because he was in good shape and only maybe 8 years older than us. Just goes to show, you never know...

Shit that's good someone was there to help; people don't realize how important it is to know the most basic of first aid. Getting someone to the next echelon of care within a timely manner is key, and known as the golden hour. But ensuring that said victim is able to remain stable within that time frame is even more critical.

Stop the bleeding, start the breathing, protect the wound, treat for shock.

These were instilled in us like crazy.

Only issue being that someone can sue you even if you saved their life, so liability is definitely something people worry about.
