Doesn't change the underlying facts of the play though. Even if they halt the trading, those short shares have to be bought and paid for.

 

There are stocks that GO UP when the market goes down.
IF the shorts have to liquidate assets to cover exceptional losses the dow goes down. People sell...SO you find a reverse fund that would benefit from that dip that has cheap out of the money calls and buy some. Market drops, funds pop, calls go In the money...5x return...

Regulators would have to step in, but it's not clear there is any basis for them to do so. Nothing shady is happening here. Hedge funds left their pants down and now the contractual obligations they agreed to may hurt them very badly.

The brokers that disallowed trading today are already getting into legal trouble around market manipulation laws. The same might happen to any entity that halts trading simply because one side is losing. They could very well find themselves on the losing end of a massive lawsuit and settlement. Possibly more than the damage from the shorts.

They don't really have any good options here.

 

I mean look at today...It's up to $335 after hours with the most MASSIVE short attack ever...
If they try the same thing tomorrow it would have to be 8x shorted to cause the same drop...

Things are going to be very cray tomorrow. It's not just GME that has ITM options expiring. BB, AMC, and a few others are way up. I can't wait to watch this shit unfold.

 

This is also true. Trading halts may help if some people lose interest over time and decrease buying pressure on the stock price, and if the bad end of the trade (i.e. shorts) can use that time to earn more revenue from other non-halted sources.

But you're right, eventually everyone who loaned to the shorts has to get their shares back.
