Anyone know if there is any difference in the sidewalls between a LT285/75/17 C load vs the 35/11.5/17LT in C load?
That, and I'm also wondering how much extra cutting/work it would be to fit the 35 vs the 285/75/17

I've had 265/70/17s on a 17x9 -12 wheel for about 6 months now. No lift, and +110lbs for a winch so I ride sligtly lower than stock. I shaped the plastic with a heat gun and trimmed a little off the bottom with a rotory tool. I still rub on plastic (not the CM) at 2/3 turn and some compression/stuff. I've got upper control arms and Kings shipping soon(I hope) so I haven't hammered the pinch weld yet. That might fix the rub.

I love this tire. So good in the snow and rain. Stock tires had me doubting the capability of the truck. Now I'm having fun. Cheers

Here are some dimensions for comparison. You can also check Toyo's website for their exact dimensions, as tires usually vary slightly from one manufacturer to the next.

Ummmm....you know what you're in for, right? The truck is going to be a pig on stock gears and you're going to have to cut a LOT of stuff (if you haven't already).

Got my shocks back and finally got the big bear back on the ground again. 285/75/17 C-load. Stock TRD wheels, no spacers, Fox 2.5 DSC (from Accutune), SPC UCAs, Dakar pack out back.

So glad I got rid of my existing Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus in the 265/65/17 size and went with the Toyo Open Country A/T III......great tire all round.......looks, performance on dry and wet (raining all day today), ride quality and price..........I'm glad I choose these "mild" A/T tires and hopefully they'll last a long time (65,000 mile warranty)......size was perfect as well......255/70R17 S/L........half inch taller and half inch narrower then the Bridgestones but I can't tell that they're any narrower and the look great for height and width.......I just had to remove the little "front of the front tire mud flap thingy" as it was rubbing at full turn.....no bigger and I don't want or need a lift as I'm a 2wd and drive 95%+ on road and maybe an occasional dirt road or a trip to the snow......and yes, they look "beefy" enough on the sidewall......not quite as aggressive on the sidewall as the BFG KO2's but not bad at all IMO.....well worth the $172 each from America's Tire!

BFDEF55E-591B-41B8-B460-36320185BE3F.jpg Good god they are huge. 315/75/16.. ride is great compared to MTs, But still a E rated tire. Wanted “E” rating for the side wall My BFGs (E) took a beating in Utah and Colorado and glad I had them.

still trying to figure out the damn SPC UCA, rocket science.

Now that I figured which wheel I’m going with, the front runner for me on tires is the toyo OC. Question is which one the 2s or the 3s???? I want an aggressive look and love the tread of the 3s. However my rig is a 2wd. And it’s my daily driver, but I will go off road from time to time since I have the trd off road, but modest 4 wheeling. I’m looking more for stance than off road. Will the 2s fit the bill or are the 3s better looking? Any one have my dilemma?

Don’t get an E rated tire. Get the aggressive you want in a lower load rating. Will ride better. I only went e cause I want the protection on the trails, even though it’s mainly on the highway.

my taco is a 2wd and I wanted a daily driver friendly tire that was beefy looking and not too heavy but could handle the occasional snow and good wet traction.......I went with the Toyo O/C 3 and love the tire so far!........255/70R17 SL20210129_102232_resized.jpg 20210129_110054_resized.jpg

Do you think you could have stuck the 35/11.5/17 in there without any extra cutting?

Hard no.....assuming it's a true 35" tire it wouldn't fit. If you got extended bump stops it would. Keep in mind, when I say it won't fit, I mean it will rub at full shock compression. Daily driving? Absolutely would fit the wheel wells with some trimming.

Hit me up about the SPC UCAs. I ordered them when I put these tires on and I had to take them off and revert back to my Icon tubulars. I THOUGHT the SPC arms would allow me to get the camber I needed, and I think they would have IF I was running a wheel with more backspacing than stock. The reality is, on a stock TRD Sport wheel and a 285 (or more) tire, they will not work. They will rub on the UCA in all but the "A" position. I'm extremely familiar with the geometry now so if you have questions let me know.

Ok, I learned a lot about the suspension geometry in the last couple weeks. Full disclosure, it took me so long to get these tires on the truck because I was waiting on my shocks to come back from a custom valving. Originally, I took them off to get revalved and that sort of spurred the idea of getting new tires while the truck was already apart. Gave me time to trim and fit the tires.

During that time, I thought I was going to need SPC upper control arms to get the tires to fit as I was under the impression the camber would basically disappear when the LCAs were pushed all the way forward. First, that turned out not to be true. The Icon Tubular UCAs are PERFECT. Second, the SPC control arms will not clear any reasonably wide tire. In my case, 285/75/17. When you turn the wheel, the tread blocks hit the UCA in pretty much all caster positions except position A. With that said, you can't really take advantage of the camber adjustments due to the tire already being too close to the UCA...this completely defeats the purpose of the SPC arm. This is with the Stock TRD Sport wheels which have basically no backspacing. If you run a large spacer OR you run a wheel with generous backspacing you will likely be ok. But if you are running stock TRD Sport wheels....hard no, absolutely do not even try SPC control arms. Icon Tubular UCAs or bust.

I also want to state that I think this is probably the largest tire you can run and still retain the "stock" look. I kinda like having an offroady "sleeper" truck that's extremely capable but doesn't LOOK like it would slay trails the way it does. So for me, this is about as big as it's going to get I think. Can't wait to get some time on these tires!

PS: I had to finally part ways with my front mudflaps....11.5 years of good memories. Pour one out for my dudes.

Here's what I ended up with.

Thanks guys. Will do.. will get the Toyos 265 70 17 C rated along with the fx pro wheels at 17/8 with 0 offset in the matte gunmetal grey. It’s only 1 inch. I think it will be a near perfect fit for my trd off road 3rd gen 2x4, keeping it stock. Appreciate all the advise.
