Wow that sucks you have to do it each time! In both NC and OR you have to take the class for the initial issue but then it's just fill out a form and pay you fees for renewal.

Oops, sorry. You don't need to take the class each time as long as you have a copy of the certificate from a course.

That's crazy awesome, I think I waited in line longer at the sheriffs office to get printed for my OR permit.

That makes more sense. Re-taking the class every time would be overkill.

That makes more sense. Re-taking the class every time would be overkill.[/QUOTE]I've heard that in Illinois, elderly drivers over a certain age not only have to renew their driver's license EVERY YEAR, but they have to take a behind-the-wheel skills test at every renewal. I honestly think this is done not only to make sure senior citizens are safe to drive, but discourage all senior citizens from driving!

Seriously, who the hell wants to take a test every effing year?!?!

I took the test to get my license, so therefore I believe I have earned the privilege to drive and should only have to renew my license every four years so for the purpose of updating my picture. I've have had my license for almost ten years, and I've gotten a couple tickets and been in a couple fender-benders, but I've never lost license or had my ability to safely drive a vehicle questioned.

My gun permit is actually valid for longer than my driver's license, and expires on the date it was issued rather than the day after my birthday like my driver's license; In Pennsylvania, a driver's license is valid four years and a gun license for five...

I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt purely out of common sense, and whenever I have passengers in my vehicle I make them wear a seatbelt whether they want to or no. I live in Pennsylvania, which is not a primary enforcement state as long as the person not wearing a seatbelt is at least eighteen years old; I just think that police resources could be better focused elsewhere rather than pulling over somebody is not driving dangerously or violating any laws just because they’re not wearing a seatbelt!

Don’t even get me started on DUI checkpoints!

Texting and driving, on the other hand, is something that isn’t punished harshly enough in my opinion!

Disorderlt conduct? He’s never been arrested or faced any charges beyond that seatbelt ticket that he forgot about, and traffic tickets that he has paid.

PA is incredibly easy to get a concealed carry permit. I just renewed mine and it took 5 minutes. Handed them my prefilled renewal application and a $20 bill. They took my picture, printed out the card, and I was out the door. That was the downtown Pittsburgh sheriff's office too. I imagine it's easier in the rural counties.

As for your buddy's predicament; I have only to add that when I first applied for my PA carry permit five years ago, I had an outstanding fine (speeding) from North Carolina TEN years prior. Lost my license in NC as a result (their speeding laws are moronic - I was going like 15 over on the interstate ). I'm not sure what the reciprocity is between PA and NC, but it did not affect my concealed carry permit background check, or any other background check for that matter. I didn't pay it until several years after I got the carry permit when my family visited the Outer Banks and I wanted to reconcile my debt.

PA doesn't finger print CCW permit applicants. They enter your Drivers License information and run that. SSN is optional on the application. The first time I got a PA LTC it took all of 10 minutes.

I don’t even remember if they fingerprinted me; I seem to remember that it was a digital fingerprint like the passcode on an iPhone...

They probably run an Interstate Information Index "Triple I" check. N fingerprints needed. That will bring up everything from every state on a person.

I received PA licenses in two different counties and they didn't fingerprint me.

I left my SS# off my second renewal and they denied me. The sheriff office sent me a letter basically saying reapply with all the info. I wasnt using my SS# before this when purchasing firearms.

Funny. I didn’t put mine on my renewal last week and it was accepted no problem. Strange that it differs so much by county.

Did they accept your first app and then call you later to tell you it was denied because of the SSN? Just curious in case they do the same to me. I received my new card within 5 minutes. The officer hardly looked at my paperwork. Just typed in the ID number, matched my ID, and took my 20 spot. I hope they don't call and tell me I need to bring it back haha

    Hmmmm....... lets consider....

    Legally BLIND.
    Unpaid citations from long ago.

Picture this...... a blind person walking down the street with a service dog or a white/red tip cane CCW a 1911. Pulls it out to defend himself.....how to aim? Locate the target with the cane? Service dog barking? I'm sure the person would hit something when the trigger is pulled.

Sorry, I'm supportive of the refusal of the CCW for this individual.

    BTW, I am pro-2nd.

This old article from a Pittsburgh newspaper doesn't provide any source or reason, but indicates that PA does not issue permits to blind people. Texas on the other hand, is the only state that issues hunting permits to blind people. God I love Texas.
