Toyota must be doing something right ...

We obsess about Toyota all the time -- and for good reason. We love their trucks and drive them hard! Thought I would pass along this news report that Toyota is now the number one car manufacturer in the world.

Being number one doesn't mean everything but it bodes well for the future of the company. Looking forward to their full 2020 earnings report!

The only way I can interpret that statement in a positive manner is as follows. FCA (Fiat Chrysler of America) has some big balls, they consistently shove the biggest engine with ridiculous power into almost every platform they make. Their shit is not reliable and the resale sucks, but they do comprehend what the enthusiast dreams of. Toyota would never build a TRX truck, hell we can’t even get a 3/4 ton Tundra or a diesel anything. Toyota, as great as they are, makes a vanilla product that is loved for reliability, durability, and value. Many people love vanilla ice cream, but there is a place in the market for a company willing to make jagermiester flavored ice cream with diamonds and hand grenades.

 

Yet how many times did CryCo flush itself before being gobbled up by FIAT.

 

Agreed. I’m no Fiat fan and never particularly liked Chrysler before them, I’ve always been a Ford guy. The two Chrysler products I’ve owned were a 1997 Jeep Wrangler and a 2006 Dodge 2500. My 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 with the Cummins engine was the best truck I’ve owned to date, 12 years of service with minimal repairs and I got $3500 less than I paid for it after those 12 years. Those pre emission Cummins motors are awesome.

 

Selling more cars is cool but the way more important thing for the company is did they make more money. Sales are just a bragging right, bottom line profit is what really matters.

Agree with this^^^. My neighbor's 1-ton Dodge truck has been in the shop numerous times to fix stuff that broke--LOTS of stuff. Being a 1-ton, it rides as if it has no suspension at all--very uncomfortable on the freeway.

 

Agree! Toyota seems to manufacture vehicles that a lot of people want and can afford. Many folks might not know this, but Tesla is worth more than the top 6 auto manufactures combined (about $630 billion USD). Toyota is worth about $50 billion USD. Crazy, right?

If I had bought Tesla stock in November, 2018 instead of spending $30k USD on my Taco I would have an extra quarter million dollars in my brokerage account about 22 months later (!).

True, an argument could be made that Tesla is mostly just hype and vaporware (Full auto capability), but who cares if you are Joe Lunchbox and making millions on the investment?

I gotta get me some!! Oh wait, if I do, the stock will surely go down ;-)
