Looks like Reddit took all the attention today.

 

I'm not savy with the markets and trading but I've been reading up on this today and it's pretty nuts.

 

Today was a true case of the Money Manipulators showing RobinHood who really controls the market = just a taste of don't F with us because the ass kick'n you got today is just a taste of what is to come if you mess with us again. Average Joe got a bloody nose - the Big Guy got a Prime Rib.

 

I may not be up on the latest info (Fridays are rough for me at work) so I'm not sure I follow. I thought that this hedgefund was bankrupted by what happened with the shorts and a lot of people on Reddit made some good money. What am I missing?

 

Not going to say I understand it all, but you had ~2.5M Reddit "avg joe investors" beat Wall Street/ Hedge Funds at their own game and cost them $20B so far in losses from shorting* mainly Game Stop stock. "Wall Street" tried everything to try and stop it but Reddit folks still took them to cleaners.

*Shorting (might be oversimplifying this and skipping some of the rules around it)- is a tactic where you get "loaned" a stock from a brokerage which you sell with expectation you can buy the stock in the future at a <much> lower price. Wall Street has changed the regulations so now in the case of Game stop there were more "Shorted" shares then shares they had outstanding even today with $20B in losses to "shorters" there were still 112% short shares/ regular shares.

 

Decent and simple explanation for short selling

 

True and a good description. My "average Joe" was referring to the average person who invest in the market - which did get an adjustment which cost some investors a loss and bloody nose while others made a gain and got a prime rib. Seems like Wall Street is more and more like Las Vegas - Place your bets! I for one don't care for the "short" strategy but that obviously does not mean it is the wrong one.
