You are, of course, correct. Tesla has a market cap that is larger than the nine biggest auto companies combined. Lots of good reasons why that is the case -- Teslas has the idea of electric cars figured out, the stock is a financial instrument, etc. Doesn't mean Toyota is not a good value from a stock perspective but that is a whole other story altogether.

I am not a fan of Tesla as a car company but I am a fan of Tesla as a technology company if that makes sense.

Tesla the rolling Bernie Madoff scheme there's not a single good reason why their market cap is that high other than hopium, FOMO and morons. I have no doubt the stock has made people rich, but the company financials are trash. They're currently having their lunch eaten by VAG in Europe and yet people think there's still a growth story.

Ya know ... To be fair... If I couldn't have gotten the exact Taco I wanted, my 2nd choice would have been a RAM 1500 4x4.
I've been a Dodge fan-boy my entire life (And I'm 65) but this time around, I bought a Taco because I wanted a mid-size truck with a 4-banger which just isn't offered by Dodge. Annnnnd because of the Toyota rep of trouble-free quality. (And I've owned a few Toyota's before also..)
Except for a tranny issue on a Caravan I owned once, the Mopars I've own have been very good. I still have a 95' B2500 van (Believe it or not, 110K miles .. Camping rig ..) and the only thing that has ever gone wrong with it was a water pump once and the ignition coil once..
I still see around here a lot of late 90's-early 2000's Ram's around here. Chevy/Ford? Not so much. The one's I do see are mostly rotted out rigs on their last legs that aren't good for much other than going into the woods to haul firewood.
Not to be a Dodge 'honker' here (Hey, I just bought a new Taco, right? LOL!), but I don't get the 'hate' for Dodge trucks.

Hard to disagree with you ... It would be no fun defending Tesla against any of those charges ... it is a bit crazy, for sure! I see the other side, too, though. Gas prices will go back up, environmental concerns will continue to be a huge factor, their charging network is growing and there is huge value in that and the are entrenched in the electric car / auto pilot technology and sales continue to grow.

All that said, I don't own the stock ... and don't care to ... Agree on market cap, but there are some positives there to consider as well. But, alas, that is a whole different debate.

Reminds of the when I bought my first, new gen Tundra back in '07. F&I was trying to sell me an extended warranty and I declined by saying "I'm not worried, it's a Toyota.". He said "Go look in my service bays, there's Toyotas on lifts all over the place.".......LOL, so you're selling tactic is to claim that Toyotas are NOT reliable? Car dealerships operate in a different dimension.

It's all about 'Honest John' in the green/purple plaid suit and the bad comb-over trying to sell what you really don't need/want.
Hey, he's gotta make a living too, but I'm not paying for his kids to go to college either..
I remember once, musta' been about 90-91' ... Went to a dealership to buy a used 88' Mazda 323. Good shape and low miles.
When I started hedging on the purchase, the salesman (Maybe 18-19 years old) started .. Crying ... And I mean REALLY crying ... That if he didn't sell that car, he was gonna get fired... It was an Oscar-Wining Performance.
I looked at him and said 'WTF ... You think I'm STUPID or something??' .. Walked out and bought a Corolla elsewhere.
