 Well I want to do a motor swap. I want to take out my supercharged 3.4 and swap a newer tacoma 4.0 in it. Is this posible? If so, what will it take to do it? My motor feels like its about to blow up so I want to upgrade.

yea im going to do it myself. its a lot easier to just buy a different one and sell my supercharger (only has 17k miles on it) that will cover the cost of my new motor. and will run a lot smoother.

Well this has been covered before...
    1) ANYthing is possible with enough time and money
    2) The 1GR-FE puts out about 235hp max. I've read the TRD S/C brings the 5VZ's power from 190 to 265. Why would you spend so much time/money to decrease your power?
    3) Instead, just get a 5VZ with low miles...

I don't know what it would take, but it is not worth it in any way.

no. dont do it. like stlharry said its not worth it. you will spend alot more money swapping it than just rebuilding your engine your gonna have to change your transmission, the computers, your drive train, some fab work for mounts and its heavier than the 3.4 so you will likely squat the front of your truck some..

The 4.0 is faster than a 3.4 SC. We did some...tests up here.

Besides, then he can SC the 4.0 later. Remember, just cause it makes 265 at the flywheel doesn't mean it's putting that down to the ground.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
HHHmmm................need the engine and trans and ECU and all of the second gen sensors and harness. Need to pull the old stuff out and install the "new" stuff. Probably change the heater/AC out as well, a lot of splicing required inless you swap connectors.........fuel pump swap?.........fab, fab, fab work..........new drive line(s)........yadda yadda yadda

    Not saying it can't be done; like others have said......time + $$$ = :D

It's just more practical to by a spare 3.4 and rebuild it. Then install when yours finally dumps

I thought it has been proven physically impossible for a 3.4 to conk out?

Well i know I could sell my motor with the supercharger on it and not have to pay any more for the 4.0 but I didnt know if the tranny and whatnot would bolt on. I did the 5.3 to 6.0 swap on my silverado and it was a direct bolt on. I was hoping this was the same way. If i have to get the 4.0 tranny and whatnot im not going to even bother. Thanks for all your guys help.

Yeah, it would take quite a bit of modification to say the least to do the swap. It would definitely not be a 'bolt in' type of deal.

In the end though, I would bet that your supercharged 3.4 would still feel more punchy then a stock 4.0l in there unless you were to s/c it as well.

I was actually doing a 2.4 to a 4.0 swap, if you try your in for a LOT of fab, and also the motor sits VERY high so you will need to modify your hood, you will need an oilpan from an Xrunner to get it to even get close to clearing the steering rack.

The motor is just plain HUGE, and I decided to go with the LS1 instead, its so much smaller...but sooo much bigger.:D

But putting the 4.0 can be done, but not worth the work IMO.

Yes, but I've looked at your list of mods and all I can say is: Holy fuck balls.

Maybe, but having driven the 3.4 and 4.0, the 4.0 is a beast by comparison. Just raw.

yea im not going to bother doing the swap. i just want something more meaty thats not all built up. too many problems. just a smooth running powerful motor. and thanks, its back in the hills in moorpark, ca. only the locals know about it because its on private property and you have to drive through their yard to get down there. if they see somebody they dont know they call the cops. luckly we know the owners because i went to school with his son.
