Thank you all for the help. not trying to flash the ESU I'm mainly just trying to reprogram my fob key. i will purchase a new cable. sorry for being such a newbie lol.

Do not use a clone cable for that either. It is a process that requires reliable comms. You don't want to mess up that ECU. I know the engine / AT ECU can be unbricked, but I have not seen anything on whatever ECU is used for the keys. Programming with TS and a Tactrix was very easy though.


Note that the Tactrix will work on other brands, like Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mazda, and others if you have them.

 

Did the Amazon cable come with any software/drivers? Does the cable show up on the VIM select menu?

I would disagree. Customizations, just some bits, are fine. Transponder codes and whatever else is beeping back and forth? IDK.

ok what type of cable do you recommend for key fob programming. baller on a budget status here. just look tactrix cable is 169 dollars. can i get away using something else?

I hear you. It was a hard pill to swallow, but it is the least expensive adapter that is reliable for that kind of work.

When I did my first TSB flash, I used a borrowed Tactrix. The other possible route is checking the 1st Post here for folks that might be local to you. They all have Tactrix adapters to help you out:

Besides what was recommended above, you could also call around to some local locksmiths to get a quote for the FOB programming.

I had some recent experience there.

I had a new fob in hand for our Mazda. The key cut plus transponder programming was over $100. I still had to do the remote lock learning on my own. BTW, I did ask for only the key cut, but the guy was in automatic mode.

For the @MESO FlipFob, it was $4 OOD to cut the key.

 

You can either search out another (updated?) set of drivers or maybe try closing TS?

 

yeah did that one already cost 180 to program one fob. if i would have been smart and did my homework I should have gotten the cable. but sometimes it takes for your to-do stupid shit before you get smarter.. lesson learned!! you guys have been great with the help.

Do you know what your ECU ID is? If you have an AT and aren't on 04B33, that $170+shipping Taxtrix cable gets you a really good tune as well as programming your key FOB. It's like a 2 for 1!

 

@stonedraiders I could probably program for you if you can't get it going and don't mind the drive south. I'm super close to the 5. DM me if you get frustrated enough to consider that, it'd have to be after 8pm when the wife and kids are asnooze but shouldn't take too long.

If you can get into the key diagnostics that's a good first step, if it recognizes the signal it flashes the dome light. There are two videos on one of the MESO fob threads about how to program transponder and how to program the lock/unlock. I'd be re-watching them myself to remember cause my memory is poor. If your internals aren't a match (same FCC ID on the back) then I think you're SOL (I first bought a cheapo key and had to throw away the internals b/c they didn't seem to work but the transponder was good to go and I have a spare blank should the need arise.) I also have 3 OEM keys in the bin if you're doing this for a flip fob. You'll have to do your own harvesting but programming the key can be done without turning it so we might be able to get it done in 5-10 min and have you on your way.

 

sounds like a deal. I have a AT not sure what the ecu Id is yet. I walked back inside with tail tucked and my head down... Hahaha
