Anyone here have experience towing with a bike?

I've had this hair brained idea for the longest time to put a trailer behind the CT90 for beer/groceries/a keg/whatever. I thought about try to convert a bike one or build one, but looking at these two on Amazon I don't really see any reason why they wouldn't work, right?

Hook it to the axle, and go? The CT90 has an adjustment on the side it'd hook to to center the wheel within the swingarm, if it fit between that nut and the end of the axle I don't really see a downside. Looks like there'd be enough room to lean and turn without running into anything. Only if in my mind is if the wheels/bearings can do 35ish mph and not detonate.

Anyone have a good reason to talk me out of it?

 

I would totally do this, but it would be on a ‘busa doing about 185 MPH.

 

I gotta say, I can't stand that guy. I watched a video of his years ago where he said weighting the pegs is pointless and does nothing and I haven't watched a full video of his since. Also his hat annoys me

Edit: just watched like 2/3rds of that video and I think he did that in the most difficult way possible. I think if I were in that situation: 1) I wouldn't have fucked up the log crossing and 2) just dump the bike on the other side, rotate it so the front wheel isn't in a hole, pick it back up, and roll on your merry way. I've done that to get out of ruts before and it's a piece of cake aside from your shiny bimmer getting dirty.

The only concern I’d have is the bearings in those trailer wheels not being made to withstand high speeds (rather the higher speeds of the CT90). It’s possible they’d generate heat and could melt plastic wheel hubs. As long as you’re not going in longer hauls with it, I’d say go for it. Another option would be to build a simple one with better wheels.

I posted about it in a CT90/CT110 FB group and they said single wheeled would be more stable, which makes sense I guess. But then one of them brought up the fact that the trailer might have to be registered, which would be... interesting. I've been scouring washington state WAC's and RCW's trying to find applicable law, but haven't found anything yet.

That trail tail looks badass, you can even get skid plates for it

Speaking of the CT90... we got some unexpected snow today so I went and did a quick five miles hooning around the neighborhoods. Then gave it a bath in the garage to get it all sparkly again, toweled it off and gave it a quick blow dry just to make sure nothing got any rustier.

 

Alright boys I think it's dual sport time. Gonna sell the banshee and get a dual sport rig.

I'm leaning towards a klx300 or crf300l. I like that it's in my price range brand new.

Leaning towards the crf300l because, as I understand, it's an evolution of the crf250l which is basically taken from the cbr250r. So it's not like some super high strung off road engine that's real picky about oil change and valve check intervals. It has decent suspension travel. It'll also be my first dirt bike of sorts.

Thoughts? Opinions? Better options?

 

The Honda is the one I'm planning on getting this Spring. Aside from some reviews saying it's not powerful enough, it's going to fit my needs just fine. A decent commuter and a mild trail bike that's not heavy as hell.

 

We need Yamaha to step up and release a wr300r or wr450r
