Bascially the 30 series laptop chips are not the same as the 30 series desktop chips. We are back to the days on mobile chips having fewer cores than the desktop ones. Also the base frequency, so the promised minimum frequency, is a joke. It's all the way down around 750 mhz. So yes, a laptop can have a 3080 and run like it's a 3060 because it can't hold 1000 mhz boost but that laptop will still be labeled the same as a laptop that can hold a 1500 mhz boost. It's messed up. Now you'll need to watch a review of each and every laptop in the store to determine which one to buy. Oh, and I would guess MSI is just a general avoid now because they've been historically very poor thermally.

I'm having some crashing issues lately.
Sometimes it runs for days with no issues. Today I cant keep it running for 5 mins.

I have a seasonic 1050 watt power supply that I think might be going bad. its fully modular and has been in for several years.

So I guess im looking for another power supply.
    I'm running a I7 4770k, and 2 1080's
Does anyone have a reccomendation on a decent modular power supply?

My build thread is at the link.

Check the warranty. I think that PSU has 5-7 years.

I'm partial to EVGA power supplies. They seem to be built very well, and EVGA stands behind their products. Also, (and I'm sure other brands have this) it has an ECO setting that only turns on the fan when the power demand requires it.

    Yeah.
Even before seeing the BIOS message my thought went to PSU as the easiest thing to try. After that, it kind of becomes a crap shoot as to which component is going bad, but typically mainboard, graphics, or RAM.

I've used Corsairs for a bit and been happy, but basically you get what you pay for with PSU's. I don't go cheap there, learned that lesson a long time ago.

Would an 850w work for me?

Always keep mine and my wife's current builds updated on a list there.
Makes it easy to upgrade/swap out parts.

    Yeah.
Probably, I personally like to have a bit of headroom. Looked up your cards and CPU, and that's 525 watts right there, so 850 would give you more than 1.5x that.

I love the compatibility feature. I wanted a Noctua dual tower cooler and I didn't know if it would fit. Punched it in and it said it would, it did!

Yeah, that's saved my butt a couple times. "Oh this looks great and it's on sale. Let me plug it in pcpp.."

Like TenBeers said, it's good to have more than you need. Like towing at the max rating or towing below max rating.

I would say 850 would still be a good idea. Leaves you room to upgrade to a power hungry CPU and or a power hungry GPU
