    TRD Supercharged / OTT Tuned
To summarize, the "wrong" ones are indeed the correct ones for supercharged applications?

And the "correct" ones are the right ones for NA ?

@PhoS found this. Extremely beneficial for the guys pushing the upper limits, needing more resolution and duty cycle from their MAF sensor, while not having to rescale anything.

That doesn't make sense to me. If the new sensor is not maxing out in the smaller housing then it's scaled wrong in the ecu. Nothing to do with resolution.

@TodayWasTHeDaY I am going with the FRS Torsen. I already bought one, it'll sit on my shelf for a while longer I think (less money going around in my business now which means less moneys for re-gear and such). There is a phrenulum inside the differential that interferes with the FRS torsen that the driveline shop with have to clearance for me, and I'll have to get a machine shop to drill out the holes to attach the ring gear. Overall should be a lot cheaper than the $1000+ CAD carrier that @BassAckwards linked to, so I'll be happy enough. When it comes to AWD, I will look into that for the future - would be a pretty awesome overall upgrade, for now I'll do it in stages.

The original sensor maxes out in the OEM 3". This sensor does not.

It is has a higher duty cycle in g/s for a 3" tube because it is for vehicles which make more HP in OEM trim. They flow more.

This is also me assuming that the OEM tubing size that comes with the MAF listed above, is actually a 3" as well.

The input to the ecu is a simple 0-5 volts I believe. A different sensor may send out a different voltage for the same flow but the ecu will see the wrong value in that case unless the ecu upper range value (at 5v) is changed.

The sensors range is different and the ecu has to be adjusted to match.

    I could be wrong though...

There is no duty cycle on a MAF. It's simply a heated element that the ECU supplies current too to maintain a specific temperature. The voltage that is required to maintain that temperature is used in a lookup table (that we're all familiar with now) which the ECU then reports as airflow (in g/sec).

The two MAF's "flow" the same, one has a smaller orifice to sample the incoming air (ie: lower resolution). This would be the Subaru/Mazda MAF 197-6040. See below:

    40.jpg

Our stock MAF is identical, except it has a larger orifice to sample the air charge (higher resolution). The larger orifice means that the ECU reaches it's 5v capacity at a lower airflow, but is more sensitive to smaller changes in airflow. Seen below:

    100% accurate!

Spot on! These MAF's will require a different voltage to maintain the sensing element's temperature with identical air charges being sampled. This will require a different MAF calibration curve to account for. You'll have to redefine what the airflow amount is for a given voltage. Just as you would if scaling for a larger housing with the original MAF.

I'd say you were pretty spot on brother!

    Thanks Justin!

I deal with industrial sensors a lot so there's a lot of parallels. A sensor is usually a 'dumb' device and something else has to process and interpret the the signal, in this case the ecu.

I just got the TRD Sport edition. LSD in the back and option for all wheel when I need it.

I don’t know why anyone would want all wheel drive all the time

Because I didn’t leave 4wd for a week and a half. Made me wonder why I dropped 3mpg for this tank

Speaking of lsd (trippy) I ordered a truetrac the other day so pretty excited to get that installed whenever it arrives! Be real nice to have a mechanical lsd and not a half assed computer controlled one.

Also have an afe momentum scoop to install on my bastardized magnum intake and piles of wiring projects to keep me busy. Fun times.

answer: Canadian winters. Or, one just has too much torque all the time. Or both.

I did it through east coast gear supply. Price was a little more than urd but I got a master install kit with bearings/shims and marking compound and a dial indicator. Everything I need minus a third member gasket.
