I sadly lost my almost fully restored ’75 K5 to a deer and tree on an old dirt road in the rain... but lost one love that day for another. Good coverage insurance gave me a nice deposit on a new ‘20 Sport. Minus having a car payment... I’m stoked!AFE61723-64E9-4759-BA23-75FB267E279A.jpg6FA93F9D-76D1-4EB5-9583-295302F7ED69.jpg

It is amazing to me how similar the 2000 ranger looks to the 3rd gen Tacoma’s. I don’t mean that they look exactly alike by any means, but more like if an uneducated person looked at the two unbranded it would be easy to think the 2000 ranger was the predecessor to the 3rd gen Tacoma in my opinion.

I picked the Tacoma precisely because it's the closest thing on the market to that vintage of Ranger. (The current Ranger doesn't even come close.) And, I configured the Tacoma to replicate the key features of my Ranger: 4x4, manual transmission, V6 engine, 6' bed, etc. I'm still driving the Ranger more than I'm driving the Tacoma, but it's good to have the replacement waiting in the wings. At some point, a 20 year old truck is going to give up the ghost.

I traded a 2006 Ford Ranger XLT, extended cab, short box, 245 c.i. V-6, automatic, 4 X 4 with tow package and 4.10 gears. It had 107,000 miles and ran perfectly. Black with gray interior. We loved it but needed to update to a 4 door and something that had more horsepower/torque. If the Tacoma we traded the Ranger for gives anywhere near the service and reliability of the Ranger we'll be happy.

Same with me. I’ve only ever owned Ford Rangers prior to this Tacoma. I agree the new Ranger looks like crap. The proportions are just all wrong on it. To me it looks like they tried to put a full sized bed on a mid sized truck and failed miserably. Kinda sad that Ford probably lost a lot of their customers due to a poor redesign, but that’s business I guess.

I traded in my 2010 Xterra, which was all built up for adventuring. I was very bummed to let it go, but it was starting to give me some problems, and was on the brink of needing major/very expensive work. In the end, I'm super happy with my new Taco, even though it's a bummer to be starting over with a new build. The good news is, I was able to pull most of my aftermarket equipment off of the Xterra before trading it in. Some of it is now on the Taco (winch, etc), and the rest was sold to fund new mods for the Taco.

I am not really sure why what we traded in for this truck comes into play, not sure at all...

Not really sure why there is a pets and guns and ammo thread on a truck forum either, but hey sometimes you just have to roll with it and enjoy the ride.

No trade. I went in and bought it after Toyota offered 0% for five years. My kid is getting ready to start driving, so she is getting my 2013 Acura TSX with 135k miles. I had been researching my next vehicle purchase and was trying to decide between getting another Wrangler or trying a Tacoma. Not being 100% sold on the new Wranglers (mine was a 2008 JKUR) or 100% sold on the Tacoma, Toyota’s finance offer was the kicker. So far, I have 14K miles on the truck and I like it. Just trying to get used to going off road with IFS.

I tried to trade in a 91 Volvo.... They did the tacit inspection and came back and asked... How much do you think you can get for this in a private sale? So yeah, I sold it privately.... and it paid for my snugtopper.

The key reasons why I didn't buy a new Ranger were (1) size was too big, (2) no manual transmission, (3) the silly feature where the engine turns off and restarts automatically. Plus, the Tacoma has displaced the Ranger as the most popular small truck. That means there's a host of aftermarket parts, fan groups (such as this forum), and other kinds of support.

Except that your picture is of a Mazda B4000! Which is OK, since they were Ranger clones and probably built on the same assembly lines.

I used Mazda parts, such as the "A" pillar grab handles, in building up my Ranger. (I also used Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer parts. My overhead console was from the Explorer.)

It may be possible to enhance the Tacoma with parts from other Toyota products. I'll have to start looking into this.

That mazda was built at Ford's factory in Michigan. There was nothing japanese about it, haha. Well except for the badge.

I used an armrest from an old explorer, fit perfectly.

Yeah, ranger and b4000 were identical except for few interior and exterior cosmetic parts. I got my parts from a ford dealer and told them i have ranger fx4. Mazda dealers did not stock very much parts for those trucks, if any.
