Thanks- yes the climate would certainly be different. I don't think I've ever had a date (fruit - LOL). We have a lot of fruit trees on our farm (Peach, Apple - different varieties, Pear) as well as a lot of Blueberry Bushes. We - unlike you - do not farm them or make any money...my wife (who as I said stays at home) takes care of them. The fruit like the horses, do NOT make money...they just COST me money.

 

Horses and boats I hear cost people money. I guess unless you are wining Kentucky derby! But they are so majestic

my farm didn’t start out making money, wasn’t the purpose. Was a way to get away from the city snd enjoy the garden
One led to another - and things took different turn in life. I left my profession to do it full time. Then employees came on, exports started, processing snd packaging plant - and things took a life of its own.

I have to give credit to hipsters. Whole food snd trader joe going hipsters made dates “cool” in the usa. As a result world wide demand became stronger and prices started going higher making investments worthwhile

I understand - I am in the minority that likes the black fenders - I like chrome too (not a lot). I am not a fashion/trend kind of guy. Heck I wear a flat top (haircut) - I have since I was 5. I joke that my hairstyle is in style every 20 years or so. I still wear the same suits and ties that I wore in college and when I first stated in the business world. LOL - I'm using the same saddle I used 30 years ago, while my wife buys newer (Improved??) saddles..to me at 3-5K per pop, my saddle is just fine (HAHA).

 

I mean isn’t this thread for airing of grievances??

That is SO cool!!! I wish I had done something like that - in my business, even though I live on a beautiful place, my wife is the one who enjoys it for the most part. I work 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day. I'm thankful and blessed, but if I could turn back the clock 20 years...
