In the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Lansdale during this afternoon’s DoorDash run; Spare tire held up just fine on the turnpike at speed exceeding 70 MPH!

 

This does not surprise me in the slightest...

 

While on the DoorDash run, I found a Ford Explorer sporting some extremely familiar wheels...

 

Got some wood from my neighbor free of charge...

Careful with old tires. The tread may be great, but age can cause them to dry rot.

 

I’m hoping to have the new tire installed by the end of this week; Lots of snow coming tomorrow into Monday so not a whole lot of places I can take a 2WD pickup!

 

Also, I will NEVER use Mavis Discount Tire again, EVER!

I got my tires from my mechanic in March 2019 and got a good deal on them; In August 2019, my dad picked up a nail with his Yukon that he hadn’t even had for a year and had to replace. I took it to Mavis to get a new one and while there I found out that I could get a road hazard warranty on my Coopers even though I hadn’t bought them there, since they were new enough; My mechanic is a small, independent operation and can’t offer a road hazard warranty.

I probably paid like sixty bucks and was thinking I’d never have to use it because I’ve probably got 12K miles left on the Coopers at most; I was even going to buy my next set of Coopers from Mavis!

Not anymore...

 

So, last Wednesday I discovered a nail in my left rear tire and quickly went to Mavis less than an hour before they closed; The low-level employees there couldn’t do jack shit in terms of honoring the road hazard warranty but deemed my tire unpatchable. My intention was to replace two tires at most to even out the tread wear, but just for grins I asked what a set of four cost through Mavis...

Keep in mind that my mechanic sold me a set of four Cooper Discover AT/3s, size 225/70R15, for less than $530; In August 2019, Mavis was actually charging less and I was disappointed that I hadn’t shopped around (not anymore; Keep reading). Imagine my shock when the guy tells me that a set of of Cooper Discoverer AT/3s was “closer to $700”!

The excuse he gave me was “due to COVID”...

 

As everybody knows, I stopped by my mechanic’s house and he was willing to follow me to the shop and put the spare on, until he did a leak test and found no leak; Even after pulling the nail, we were both shocked to discover that the damage had been superficial!
