Winter gives me the worst mpg, I can barely touch 20mpg now on my stock rig, using top-tier brand regular fuel as always. I normally get 21-23

I keep my air filter clean by regularly replacing it.
Tire pressure is still at 38-40 psi on the road as always
I have folding tonneu cover, and the factory air dam is still in place so for now I’m just chit our of luck in the dog house

I’m in the process of trying to get an oem trifold cover. Dealership has tried to order twice now and twice ordered me a bed mat.....I already have a bed mat

If it's breaking the bank via MPG it's time to sell it and get something that gets good MPG. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of these thread in the coming months years.

Don't let anyone bullshit you into buying stuff to try and increase MPG or even believe what they're getting for MPG. These are the same people lie about their dick size, height and income.

The tonneau cover is not to increase mpg, I don’t think it matters much if any. But I use my bed as trunk space for travel and it’s easy off if I need to help move someone, so it’s a worthy add-on as is my oem bed mat too imo lol!

Yep all stock. The only way you are going to get good mileage is drafting behind a big rig on the highway or driving down a mountain. Trucks are heavy and not aerodynamic. Summers I get about 16-17 on my same commute. Your fuel economy might increase a little after some use, but don’t expect much. Your truck is fine.

Yep. My buddy has one on his truck. We have identical rims and tires. The only difference is his is OR AT. We get pretty much same fuel mileage. I get a bit better city, he gets a bit better on hwy due to lower rpms in 6th.

Exactly, when you factor in the fact that the cover adds additional weight to the vehicle, you’d be lucky if you’re not on the loosing end of the deal.
But it is confounding how they used to market them big time as mpg savers

BTW, looks like those rigs had a good time lol!

You added some weight, you're driving short distances, and you warming up the engine. Small wonder you're getting poor mileage. Skip the warmup. Take it on a longer trip and check your mileage.

    Haha!

I saw somewhere on the internetz that the tonneau cover actually makes it a bit worse, not sure how true that is.

I know that the pick up bed was designed like that and it doesnt interfere with the airflow.

But yeah, we had a fantastic time! Got some beauty rainbow trout! The drive there was fun as well, about 30km through a forest road.

Thanks so much for taking the time for this very much appreciated feedback. I completely hear what you are saying.
And the resale value is one reason why I bought the Tacoma for sure.
Walking is not an option unfortunately due to time constraints both at start and end of my 12 hour work day and the roads to work are very busy at that time of day, dark at times, and no sidewalks.
So for these obvious reasons walking is out. cheers
