04B04? Would you mind if I can get a copy to test out on my own truck? I think I’m currently flashed on the 3.0 version

@PapaRee, flashed your 3.3 cruiser last night (thanks @dave82at for converting to 04A61) and put about 500 miles on it just now. Mostly flat roads cruising at 75, with about 50 miles of big hills and 60 of interstate at 80. Someone else made slight tweaks to it (forget who you are, sorry!) for D4S and some timings. I moved the low throttle shift points down a bit and I gotta say, this is probably the best drive I've had in the Taco yet.

The shifting is very predictable, and my god does it hold 5th and 6th really well. I actually had to shift to S4 a few times because it held 5th so well but that was fun. It accelerated in 6th no problem, 50-60 and I think 70-75 (don't recall other ranges). It gets into the gear I want it at the speeds I want at the time I want. I can count on one hand how many times I had to give it a little more gas to encourage an upshift.

Neighborhood and town cruising is perfect. I used to feel like I was screaming in 1st and 2nd getting out of my street and it'd hold 3rd unless I sped up to about 29 (in a 25). Not anymore.

Didn't experience any noticeable issues during deceleration, either partial or full.

And MPGs...juicy high. The truck said somewhere around 21 and OBD Fusion reported 24+. And this was with all those hills and high speeds (and a lot of flat stretches, to be fair). I feel like I had a tailwind for part of this but definitely had some headwind and it still was enjoyable.

I forgot to update my shift points to the other maps so cruise control was wonky but did better at holding higher gears than before.

Stellar work done by you, MD17, and everyone else who's been putting in the work for us tuning plebians.

I just changed all the other shifting maps to match the Primary Primary map. Will flash later. I did forget to mention that I'm pretty sure I observed a bit of that dead throttle scenario you recently mentioned, somewhere around 2100 RPM. Didn't log any data but pretty sure I was in 5th around 74 MPH trying to crest a hill. I noticed 5th would sometimes struggle to even maintain speed when going up hills but I overcame this easily by switching to S4. It's not enough of an issue, at least for the driving I do, to concern me.

Still a kickass tune and I'm honestly not sure what else I'd want changed besides maybe GL. Also, S3 and gunning it on short on-ramps is stupid fun. Put a smile on my face. The engine sounded awesome.

5th gear is seriously sensitive in this truck. It likes a small range

That's weird. That was my opposite experience. It'd stay in 5th for a while. I nearly full-stomped (slowly) and it still held on for dear life. Unless you mean small range of usability/power.

yes, usability/power. I hold 6th with ease anything 65mph or over. 4.88’s tho

5th is just odd in this truck to me. It should have more torque/power before downshifting IMO. The throttle amount applied should produce better in 5th, but maybe that’s the limits of the setup...

Careful with those... those airload tables seem to work together and if you don't adjust them properly you'll get a malfunction and limp mode. I forgot the code; but, it was something about throttle position not matching ECU expectation.

It was fine for two hard accelerations; but, not the third. I'm back to stock on those.

I got the downshift to 4th roughly dialed. Totally different experience driving uphill. Who needs V8...
Upshift .... It looks like upshift to 5th is working.....if you are slightly above 140 km/h(>85mph) or you are in S-5, or you force upshift in S.
Trying to play with numbers, but I think our "mods" eff'ing things up as far as shift points. Accelerator in 4th is about 26*, speed is 75 mph(120 kph), table for upshift to 5th has the value 86(~50 mph).
    ???????

Any changes to throttle limits or throttle request to airload tables will mess up your shifting tables.

for sure. But why it is working in S? Are there "other" tables? Do I need to apply Optimal shift map for S to what table? I get this b*tch working some day...

    What is working in S?

Someone tried changing optimal transmission torque maps to the sport mode map and said it was a disaster. :anonymous:

upshift to 5th at speeds 70 and above. Works in D if you in right lane...

I noticed the same “dead pedal” situation on the tune in my 2018 also. Cruising on the highway and hitting the throttle wouldn’t really do anything until you got pretty deep on it. Then it would downshift to 4th and take off.

same here. We have a lot of hills so it’s not something I’m a fan of. Probably will go back to regular 2.0 for the time being. It works great for my truck.

There is no room to accelerate in 5th, unless you unlock the TC(heat generation) or figure out Toyota's throttle w/intelligence and crack the throttle to open a bit to play on the high load limit.
The only road (imho) to get 4th working...
