Lol yes . Work is in the seaport district (maybe). Still no idea about where to live... traffic and commute is the biggest “roadblock” (haha) right now .

from what I have gathered by watching movies , I should be ok as long as I don’t snitch anyone out to the “gawd dam kops”

great post, will add one edit. Mass plows are now where near as professional as Maine. Maine roads in a storm are top notch. OP you will adapt to New England just fine. where in MA are you looking to move too?

I moved from Flagstaff, AZ to Harwich on Cape Cod in October. The company main office is in West Bridgewater, the drive there is generally 1:20 from Route 6 exit 11 (or whatever those fucking retards renumbered it to last month :censored:, how did they not make Provincetown exit 69?). I asked a lot of similar questions to the OP, but I already had the house to move in to. Stuff rusts, gun laws are stupid, and Dunkin is everywhere. I decided to lease my Tacoma so I don’t have to care about rust, especially since I’ll be getting a beach sticker for Nauset.

Okay so my credentials to say this are that I grew up in Boston. Boston boston, not a suburb. Moved to NM when i was 26, im 28 now.
Its pretty much just as restrictive as cali. No smog inspection but they do have emissions and general vehicle inspections yearly. Hiking in the winter is inaccessible in most places and the hikes are also quite bland compared to out west.
Guns are horribly restricted as well. MA has an approved weapons roster which greatly limits the guns you can own. The police chief in Boston does not issue unrestricted concealed carry permits unless you have a restraining order against someone, or have documented record of being assaulted. I got a hunting/range restriction on my concealed carry license. It was quite a long process which even involved a shooting test at 6:45 am with the Boston Police on Moon Island. Waited several months and ended up with a concealed carry permit that doesnt even let me carry unless i am on the way to the range or hunting. Mass has a 10 round mag limit. In Boston there is also street cleaning so one day a week you can only park on one side of the street and its impossible to get a space.

the salt will eat you tacoma. The winters are cold. Summers humid. The bars close at like 1. The T (subway) closes at 12:30. Nightlife there is wack. Hiking there is only good if you drive to New Hampshire. I used to sail there and even got my captains license. I know the sailing scene there very well so if you move there and want to get into sailing send me a PM.

sorry to be such a downer. Another positive aside from sailing is that people there are real. They’ll let you know if they dont like you. I love that. Out west i cant tell if people like me or not. Good luck OP

edit: also if your new job is in boston proper i suggest you move to boston. While it is more expensive than the suburbs, your commute would be nightmarish while living in the suburbs. The highways into Boston from “Greater Boston” has insaneeeee traffic during rush hour. You’d be spending hours in bunper to bumper traffic everyday.

Just saw that your new job is in the seaport. Seaport has a shitton of condos there. Across the harbor, in the neighborhood called East Boston, (which is where im from) has recently (and unfortunately in my opinion) gotten very gentrified and also has a ton of condos now too. Its a quick commute to the seaport, Especially if you take a water taxi. Any other questions you might have I’d be happy to give you my perspective

Just FYI. While rarely cared about, Colorado has mag bans. There are more normal(read as decide not to shit on the Constitution)states out there.

I just Moved from Los Angeles to East Boston, man its a world different, but in a good way. I am having alot of issues with finding Trails, and overlanding camping trips out here. Im used to BLM land being everywhere. Out here everything is privately owned. The Green Mountains is the best place ive been so far that you can camp anywhere.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Unfortunately this is a consequence of the progression of the European invasion that really took hold in the early 1700s. There was no significant effort to preserve wilderness areas for public enjoyment until the westward expansion began to threaten some very unique lands. By then the change in mindset was too late to preserve large areas in the northeast. It is what it is.

    Watch this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ne-area-wheeling-trip-plans.258758/

Also keep a look out on the general north east page as people do create trip threads when planning group outings. There is a maine woods trip that is in the works currently. Covid has pushed it back but its still in the works I believe.

There is more woooded land in MA now than there was in the 18th Century. If you drive along the MA Pike or any limited access highway you can look into the woods and see the remnants of the stone walls that were made with the stones to clear fields for planting. The wood from the trees was used for buildings and fences.

There is more public hunting land in MA than in the southern states.

I suspect that the best off roading will be found in NH, VT, and ME. There are parts of western ME that probably haven't seen a few dozen humans ever.

In MA, I expect that you'll find more off roading opportunities in the western half of the state beyond Worcester.

I will definitely be checking out all those states. Im not a rock crawler or anything, i just like to drive the dirt roads and find secluded camp spots that are not overcrowded with people in Honda Civics.

if you've been in traffic on any of the SoCal freeways you'll be surprised at how quick you can get places up here! I've been in that traffic a ton and it's 100 times worse than here for sure, but like a lot of people have said sounds like New Hampshire would be a great fit for you and the fam. Year round hiking and activities and less oppressive than Mass by far, I have cousins that make the same commute and they love it.

Depending on where in the city you live, a vehicle is more of a PITA than a convenience. If you live in Southie, Charlestown, East Boston, or the North End, DO NOT take someone else's parking space after they shoveled it out. I think I mentioned that earlier, but it bears repeating.
