Hi, first time posting here! Lots of Grrrrrrreat info on this forum! It seems like you can find anything here regarding our much lusted after, Tacoma's!

I just purchased a used 2019 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4X4 TRD Sport with approximately 4,300 miles on it and the color is Calvary Blue, SAAAAAWEEEEEET! My previous Truck was also a 2009 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4X4 TRD Sport and the color was White, Saaaaaweeet back then too. That Toyota had the JBL System in it and I loved it and it sounded great right outta the gate and direct from the factory. That was my first Toyota Truck, NOOOO Regrets and it had only 34 miles on it. I love these TACO'S!

My current Toyota has the Entune Premium non JBL sound system in it. AND THE SOUND IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, YUUUUCK!!!!! Toyota should be embarrassed of themselves for installing factory junk speakers for the hefty price tag $38,000 into such a beautiful master piece of machinery!

Any thoughts on what I should install for speakers in the dash - front/back doors, plus an amped sub behind the back seat to make this truck sound amazing???

Any ideas will be helpful as this is my new dream truck!

Subaru tweeters (made by Kicker) fixed most of the sound issue for me. They are plug and play with the existing tweeters on the dash.

Many people on here also recommend the Kicker CS series for the doors, but I was happy with the outcome of just the tweeter upgrade. It really made a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have read that those Subaru tweeters were really a massive upgrade in sound for the higher frequencies.

Yeah the Subaru tweeters are a great addition. I added the kickers and I am pleased with the front speakers but not so much the rear. I’m not sure if it’s the design of the truck or what but I don’t really hear the rears. I think I’m going to add a sub and a small amp to fill it out a bit. If I were doing it over I would have just saved the money and left the rear speakers stock.

That is the one I have too. Can you hear the tweeters and the mids through those kickers in the front and how about the back kickers? Can you hear the mids and highs through them too?

Yeah I’m very happy with the front door speakers my kids say the speakers in the back are better but I can’t hear them from the front. I have played with the settings like fader and balance but I just found a setting that sounded good to me from my seat. I really recommend the dash tweeters and the front door 6x9’s.

I have a 10” sub and an amp just laying around from another project that I am thinking I will add to the truck. I just haven’t decided exactly how I will wire it up. I would have to buy a harness that will allow me some pre out for the amp or maybe use the high level inputs on the amp. It just needs to warm up here so I can get out and do a little bit.

The reason the back door speakers aren't loud is due to the stock head unit. No way to get around it other than upgrading the head unit or adding an amplifier.

I’m sure you’re right now that you say that. I faded everything to the rear and it really wasn’t the best.

    That is encouraging.

Were your front speakers the ones with the yellow foam surround on the 6x9's?

If you were to rate the improvement of sound quality before and after from 1-10 and 10 being the best what would you rate it?

Did adding new speakers increase the loudness? I have mine crank all the way to the max and I could still handle more volume.

How well does the stock unit power the Kicker's? The stock non-JBL system in my truck is decent, but the bass is very muddy. What the quality like? Looks to be an affordable upgrade.

Sorry I had some things to do...the sound is much more clear the factory is in deed muddy. I would probably give it a 7 out of 10 and I agree with they could use an amp to make them louder but I don’t need an I hate my neighbor system. I just wanted some clarity and it is better. I think a sub will help but if I can come up with some spare cash I may add an amp. For the cost it worked well. Just a piece of advice if you order from crutchfield call and talk to someone in person and make sure they send you the correct wire adapters. They sent me two sets for the front and none for the back. I had to wire the rear in myself. Oh and it is the yellow colored kickers. I think the CS series.
