I'll say a prayer for all of you in the cold.

Drinking a few beers & attempting to play golf today. Weather should be good; nice & cool, might get up into the 80's.

Now that I've said my prayer for you, go shovel some snow!

Happy Saturday all! The recent storm systems that roared through California really helped our parched state. I live in north central California and my rain gauge shows 3+ inches of rain. There are ski resorts in the Sierras that are reporting up to 10 feet of new snow. The Sierra snow pack is our water in the bank. The spring runoff is what fills our reservoirs and is the main source of our water both residential and agricultural. More coming Tuesday/Wednesday. Happy days!!
The winds with the last storm were huge, with 65 mph gusts. Blew down fences all over the neighborhood. I reinforced my fences a couple years ago and they are unscathed. The neighborhood and fences are only 8 years and less old. The wind ripped up all the protective covers on my patio furniture and then blew the cushions all over. They are muddy and filthy. My chore today is to clean them up. Fortunately that’s all the damage to my place.
Still hoping to hear something about when we can get our Covid vaccination. California is probably the most screwed up ill prepared state in the union as far as vaccination distribution.
Oh well. Have a great Saturday all and stay safe.

My frustration level is higher than it’s been since I retired.

One of my cable boxes let its smoke out. So I get a new one. It has all the bells and whistles. Hook it up and get only basic functions.

Easy call the provider and they’ll activate it. Except I’m a legacy customer from another provider and the new box isn’t compatible.

No problem. Just move me over to the current (seems they merge regularly). But if they do my old box and modem need to be upgraded.

    So they’re sending new equipment.

Today, no cable or internet. And so it goes.

If you have, or can get decent internet speed,(does not have to be super fast, as long as you don't have a bunch of users in your home) why not just switch to streaming? We made the dish/cable cutoff about a year ago and like it.
No contracts to get tied to and you can switch and swap between diff providers on a month to month basis till you find what you like. There can/may be a slight learning curve , but you can survive that -wife and I did, and we are in our 70's.

Good morning, everyone!! No cable access here. Stuck with Direct/Dish for TV and on the 3.2 mile end of a DSL line - can't push data fast enough to get video from a Ring Doorbell. Welcome to the boonies of northeast PA. :D

Snow headed our way starting today through Tuesday morning. Maybe a foot of snow - at least that's what current projections say - so not bad. Next year I'm going in for a snow blower, though. Shoveling around the front of the driveway and along the walk where I can't get the UTV is definitely getting old...like me.

Making a trip to the liquor store today. Not that we need anything - Lynn's 94 year old Mom is almost out of vermouth and VO. Can't be without that nightly Manhattan!!

    Stay safe and warm!

I hear ya.. we can't get anything reliable, not even a land line anymore. I put up a couple cell phone directional antennas, amplifiers years ago. It works when the leaves are down, like now, but we live on a road through an old growth woods that will never be thinned, so when the trees leaf out.. zip. I went so far as talking to our closest EMS services, only a couple miles away, obtaining a local phone number I could call into their station if needed, circumventing the 911 service through our voip sattelite phone service. I don't want to trust it.. just me.

Elon Musk is building a worldwide satellite constellation internet system, specifically for people like us. Canada, northern latitudes of the US are already in operation. Each multiple satellite launch gets us closer. Marysville OH, 70 miles north, is up and running in testing phase right now. So far, they're getting speeds over 100-175Mbs sec. We're on the list.. seems like we're on a lot of lists lately.
The payback is going to be priceless, including the ability to reliably communicate using cellphones via wifi, peace of mind, property values, etc.

Good Morning folks. A trip to the botanical gardens is on the agenda today o_O. The displays they have now are animal statues made from Leggos(sp) .they are supposed to be full size replicas so it should be interesting.
Have a great Sunday and be safe...especially those expecting a lot of snow.

Sit and Spin storm is supposed to dump over a foot of wet cement at my location. Gale force winds should make tomorrow quite sporty.

I looked at RecTech and at a similar price point the grill only went to 500 Degrees. The Weber will go to 600 so I can put a nice reverse sear on the steak. I have owned a lot of Weber grills and never had to trash one because it was worn out. I do appreciate the link. Which model did you finally decide on? I tend to over research purchases again Type A. Man i like this thread as a group we have a lot of interests and are not afraid to help others.

No I am not a pro, I do not think I would enjoy the competition and taking up most of a weekend. I know the pros do it for the love of BBQ. Some go overboard more than others. One of the main reasons I like B&B is the slow burning and constant heat. When I finish a cook I shut down the air vents and the charcoal stops burning quickly so I can reuse it on the next cook.

Sometimes I hate the internet, this is one of them. Communication face to face is difficult at best. I took no offense but could have communicated it better.

Today is pulled pork. I started last night with a dry brine of kosher salt fresh coarse ground pepped and cayenne pepper. I first made a cross hatch cut on the top of the butt about 1/2 in deep. The second pic is about 1/2 hour into the cook. I forgotten to take a pic when I first put the butt on and I had to check the pit temp.20210130_234115.jpg 20210131_092743.jpg

Whichever pellet grill you buy I'm sure you're going to love how easy it is to get professional results!
I have the RT-590 and it's great for roasts and ribs and most anything you want to cook.
I also bought the sear kit with it. While it does do a good reverse sear I still prefer steaks on my old charcoal grill.
I just don't think a properly grilled steak on charcoal can be beat! :hungry:
