    Take that little animal and go to the shelter on adoption day. Sit little man down in the middle of the room. Sit and wait..... what ever cat/dog comes and plops right down in his lap and gets comfortable.
    This is my approach. I did with my son and this is how we got The Captain. They are almost inseparable and has never made the kid bleed, even though he has held him over the bathtub while being completely naked, why.... cause he wanted the kitty to take a bath with him.
