But for their pride, half of TW would be better off in a nicely equipped Sienna.

Sorry your engine failed, but that does not equal the entire design being flawed. No company has ever produced a motor with no instances of some breaking down. You have to look at the percentage of failures vs. ones that went well past the average lifespan. So far, this V6 is doing very well in that regard, and Toyota is unquestionably the leader in making reliable engines (and trannies, and vehicles in general). We also know nothing about how you treated it.

I seen the OP's post last night and not sure what I'd make of it.
One thing we don't hear about Toyota engines blowing up like other manufacturers.
I have to think there is something that we don't know about a previous issue, mistreatment or something.

Seems odd he would have spare sensors and a scan tool with him if there was never a previous indicator of trouble.

If Toyota paid any of it out of warranty I think most people would be happy. I had a Jeep with a 2.8L turbo diesel chrysler only sold for 2 years in the states. Im sure I'd be just told to just go way if the same would have happened to it by Chrysler if asked for help out of warranty. OP is very fortunate here with the claim they paid 25%
Nothing is amune to fails and faults in manufacturering some auto manufacturers are for sure better than others. Toyota has a better than average reputation.

I had 2, absolute trash. The 5VZ was a god send.

I worked on 3.0s lots, they burned oil, leaked, blew headgaskets, burned valves. And people kept forgiving them.

Biggest problem was the batch firing of injectors. They had v8 fuel economy and 4 cylinder power.

That was proven to be impossible in the 2gr-fe... i doubt it’ll work in the 2gr-fks

I did two of the 3.0 for friends. Used ARP head studs in both. Both ran for decades after that with no HG issues.

I had a '94 4Runner with a 3VZ and traded it in at 227K with original head gaskets intact. Were they like the 2UZ where some were made in Japan and some were made in the US?

3vz was all jap. The 5vz too I believe. The 2uz was one of the first engines made in the states and japan

They just required more maintenance than most people were used to. The HG was more early production, which was recalled. The exhaust crossover was really close to the head and caused issues.

I had an 89 and 92 4runner both with 3.0s and I used to work at a Toyota indy that would see a 3.0 every day.

    Lol!

Doubtful since the 4runner was made in Japan.

I heard they invited some of the Detroit boys over to Japan to show them how to make a reliable V6. Mighta been an engine put together by the Motown crew.

Who? I don't think anyone made a good V6 back then.

Although, AFAIK, Toyota didn't really make V6's early on. It seems like they mostly made I6's, I4's, and tiny V8's. Maybe they knew they would be trouble. :notsure:

If the sienna had 8.5 inch ground clearance and AT tires, I would hands down rather own a sienna

400 miles from home and decided to replace the engine ?
How long did it take to get the engine ? Install ? You just happened to have a cps there and put it in also ?
Decided to replace the engine for thousands instead of fixing probably a head ?
Hard to believe. I would never had gone that route.
