Yes, but I don't remember what it was. You have to remember it was the early 70's and you know what they say. "If you remember the 70's you weren't there. Seems like it was a few letters and numbers. I do recall you had to open and close your transmission with your call sign. Along with a call sign, you'd have a "handle." Mine was "Smiling Jack" because I was always... you know it was the 70's.

I know CB used to be different but callsigns for CB seems so far from today's norm that it is hard to believe. I turned on a co-worker's CB for a few minutes a while back and decided I don't need that. Haha.

 

From Flyzeye, but sadly they are out of business. I purchased it over 8 years ago when it was first introduced on the forums.

But I digress--- After the movie Smokie and Bandit the CB craze was full on. I'm pretty sure because of the number of people buying and using them, the FCC decided to elimate the requirement for a license. I also remember that truckers quit answering radio checks, 10-86 or 10-20 calls. Yes, we used a lot of 10 codes back then.

now that it is setup, I’m running into a problem with my radios talking to each other. I have them setup on the same frequency, and same CTSS code. But the Btech GMRS-V1 isn’t talking to the midland. The Btech receives the midland, but I can’t get the Btech to talk back.

 

Some Chinese radios have T-CTCSS and R-CTCSS settings. If your midland is expecting a tone but the BTECH is only setup to receive a tone, that might be your struggle.

Menu item 13 on you Baofeng. Then the pertinent table is on page 75.

Let me know if that works.

Second thought, is either radio setup with an offset for a repeater? The Baofend would show a + or - on the top for that. When you transmit, you would see the frequency change.

Baofeng UV5R is only Part 15 accepted which is a very general acceptance that tests things like spurious emissions.

 

I got it all setup and good! The Btech and Midland are talking to eachother. Haven't had a chance to test them further than a mile apart, but so far so good. My friend also bought a UV5R8W, but I'm fairly certain those are illegal, right?

 

As far as I'm aware, none of the UV-* Baofeng radios are legal on GMRS.
