Fairbanks. I went to school for Fire Science at UAF. It was one of the top 3 schools in the nation at the time for Fire Science. Spent the summers backpacking all over the state. Spent the winters second guessing why I didn't go to AZ which was also in the top schools at the time. lol

Someone once described Fairbanks as 'terra haute indiana, except its in Alaska' Seems about right. I did enjoy that town though, sourdough pancakes are the shit.

If it weren't for family, I'd probably move to Canada or Alaska. There's so much to see and do up there.

Winters sound a little rough though.

They really need to introduce financial solvency into school curriculums. I'm not smart enough to know when or how that should be done, but it's clearly needed across all age groups. And yeah it should be taught at home, but it just isn't. I never learned it from my parents, had to seek out the information on my own, form my own good habits, and make some big mistakes along the way.

Edit: Financial literacy. I need to stop working and using forums at the same time, got my wires crossed.

Winters are brutal. After -10 you can't really tell how cold it is via your senses. -10 and -40 felt exactly the same. lol

Yep, in grade school we learned how to write checks. That was about the end of our financial education. Everything I know about managing money came from family, and I'm super thankful for it.

It’s also cool because sometimes I learn stuff in order to answer. Like RMDs. I didn’t know if the RMD calculation applied to each account or each person.

    upload_2021-1-31_23-33-36.jpg
long of the short - each account. So if you have 8 different 401ks from different jobs over the years, you have to take 8x your RMD. This is why it behooves you to roll it all into one account each time you leave a job. Every time you leave, dump it all into a traditional IRA instead of just having multiple 401ks.

just remember don’t trust everything here. We could all be collectively wrong on something. Trust but verify.

    :anonymous:

oof. I had that moment the other day. 19 degrees out and snowing thinking “F this I’m going to Texas”

I went to meet my uncles for lunch in Iowa in -40 once, tires on the taco thumped for the first couple miles. I can't imaging having that regularly. Brrrr.

Oddly enough, I made a friend in Whitehorse, and to them going for a run in the dark in below freezing temps is perfectly normal

I WAS SAYING THIS ON OUR SIDE CHAT TODAY!

My range is 20 to 90. Below 20 or so it’s just cold. I can feel the difference between 65 and 70 but -5 and 0 nope. Same with above 90. Once you hit 90 anything more is just still hot.

This is what always has irked me about financing stuff and how much america has sold out to banks to keep up with the joneses. I truly resent it for some reason and i'm driven to avoid debt at all costs, even avoiding IOUs to friends. The finance vs. buying arguments has it's merits but that's a whole other conversation. To me i always got bugged out about not directly owning anything and paying a bank to possess it while paying it off; because if everyone owned all the things they had, the whole world could go tits up, things get lost in translation, and people would still be able to claim what's theirs to some extent and recovery wouldn't be so bad, however, even then it would be a shitstorm of whosgotwhat. Now make it that probably most people don't even own half the shit they have and pay a bank to use it -- if that all unravels in dire circumstances like we may see here if things get worst-case-scenario-- people only really own what they can afford to defend and that could get bloody quick.

lol. I can see how they might be a little polarizing. I liked'm.

Didn't make it it to china hot springs, or see cocoon... something weird about that place? Liard hot springs was pretty laid back, although I did have a bison named Fred inspecting my tent

I spent some time north of the artic circle on that trip, and for sure the trippiest thing is the 24 hour sunlight, especially if its cloudy. Nothing like sitting around a fire with a bunch of German Canadians and then looking at your watch and realizing its 1am, which looks exactly the same as noon.

GME pre market has already touched 380 and now back to 320. Volatile as hell on low volume.

    Hold on to your butts.
