    Hey all,

Seen this brought up a few times, but thought I would share. Did a little Sunday project and was very surprised to find that the logo that houses the TSS sensor on my 2020 TRD OR is actually all plastic. That said I painted the grill and used a “dry tint” to matte out the logo. Wanted something a bit different than the PRO grill. Be curious to see what else everyone has done (other than the pro grill obviously).

I used dark smoke taillight tint film on my logo. I kept the 2020 SR5 bar Styled grill but changed out the chrome surround of a black one. I think the truck looks better with the black and the logo's shine muted.

I Even had it to the dealership yesterday for the 5k service. They said nothing about me adding the film in front of the sensor. I know some people said they have been told about blocking the sensor location at the service department. I've never seen any warning message about it either.

What grille is that? I like it. It's definitely something different from the TRD Bro grille. The color match logo is cool.

I replaced my 18 sport grille for the 1st variant of sr/5 grille 2 yrs ago but looking at this 2nd variant makes me want to upgrade to this- the lines all match up, flows real nice with the black plastic between the fogs.

A lot of tints (in my experience) require you to wet it before getting a decent application. This stuff didn’t require that, it was a self adhesive backed tint, almost like a sticker. The cool thing about it was if you screwed up, all you had to do is heat it and it would snap back into its original form and can be reapplied. Took a bit to get all the wrinkles and bubbles out on that curved surface, but ended up pretty nice IMO.

This is the stuff I used. With some heat it was much easier to put on. Would definitely recommend some kind of flat tool that helps smooth it out, i used a felt covered application tool (this kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07W4LQ3PB?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title ).

Hope that helps, obviously don’t need all that tint but wanted to have more if I wanted to use it on extra stuff.

I didn't buy the tool kit but I see it could be helpful. I had the flat squeegee thing from some decals I put on. Other than that I used some felt, an exacto knife and a hair dryer. The stuff is sticky so no need for water like window tint. Heat helps you streach it to fit the contours.

Did you take the emblem out out the grille to do it?

When I did mine I was also changing out the chrome grille surround for black. I had the grille assembly off the truck but didn't remove the emblem from the grille.

Yes, I already had the grill out anyways so I just pulled it out. No way I could have applied that tint still in the grill IMO.

I lightly sanded down the surface and then applied a coat of Rustoleum self etching primer. After that I applied a few coats of Rustoleum Matte Black made for car trims (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Rust-Oleum-Matte-Black-Spray-Paint-Actual-Net-Contents-12-oz/50449048). Did seem to work well, it rained overnight and this morning paint seemed to cure just fine. We will see how it holds up.

Had a guy do a similar application to mine, he used a dark wrap film, said it took a good while to get it smooth but love the way it turned out. With the rest of the truck blacked out, the chrome emblem was annoying.

Thanks, it seems to be applied very much like vinyl wrap. Except for the heating causing this product to return to its original flat shape. Vinyl just gets more flexible when heated.
