And they finally demonstrated how the hybrid cover works (why was that so hard?)...definitely easy peasy compared to a full zippered cover, though I'm not sure I buy the assertion that the elastic gather system lets in only as much dust and dirt as you would expect with a zippered system. Looking forward to hearing first hand accounts of how the hybrid cover holds up to moisture and dust.

 

I just caught a couple of minutes of it but he was selling a couple of new units for $1500.

I'm sure this has been covered before but what is the best heater for an RTT?

By "best", I mean:

1. Safe to operate both in terms of not causing a tent fire, and emissions. I don't want to die from breathing fumes.

2. Efficient in terms of low cost to operate and long run time without refueling.

3. Diesel or Propane/Butane is fine, but if it requires electricity for ignition or a fan, it would have to be 12V and have a low current draw.

What is the size of the tent? Are you using an annex or just the tent? How cold do you plan to go camping in?

 

Floor space is about 40 sq. ft. (5 x 8) and 5' high at the highest point. Tent only, no annex. Probably no colder than 30° F.

 

As far as I can tell, and according to your criteria, this propane heat exchanger would be the winner.

 

That looks cool but sure isn't cheap! I'll look into it.

 

Cant have your cake and eat it too lol. Diesel heaters are way cheaper, but can be messy and need to be refilled more often
*edit: depending on tank size obliviously

 

Appears to be made in England too with US distributors.

 

possible it will ship this week, not sure but website said shipping feb 2nd. I ordered later on Friday, kind of hope it doesn’t ship till early March, it will be easier to deal with.

 

...We wouldn't see much pavement on this trip, and a gravel road would have been a much more pleasant drive than the few paved miles of Ivanpah Rd. that would deliver us to the New York Mountains. With disintegrating pavement that made us thankful for our aired down tires, we were glad to see the pavement ends sign as we crossed the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad....

I will be replacing my Tepui Kukenam that I have had for 7 years with this "Bad Ass RTT".

My Tepui has been great but it's seen heavy use and it's time for it to move over....

 

how big does the package appear in real life, reading that it is bigger than it appears has me concerned for your well being.

 

It's only 143 lbs. Easy one man job for sure.

 

i was thinking an ant could manage it at first, but we must remember, its bigger than it appears.

 

I got my strapping 24 year old boy to help me move it into the garage. It's just big and awkward.....and I'm clumsy.
