Well I lied about that. I ended up finding the Wrangler Authorities with an E load rating locally for a 245/75r16 at a great price. Wheels that match the truck with the tires mounted/balanced for less than $550!

The next research project is batteries to go with the solar for boondocking.

That's beautiful. What are you using for the corner jacks?

I managed to sneak in a couple of nights out between storms. It was chilly but nice. Campground was pretty empty. Another family that took a nearby spot had a Taxa Mantis. I'd never seen one in person. They're kinda neat, though Taxa does some things that I scratched my head at. They do look funny as well. Sunrise on the 2nd day was about as nice as one could hope for this time of year in the PNW:

Jealous of all the sweet looking tear drops posted in this thread. My Boreas Camper should be arriving soon. Hoping it pulls half decent, should be less than half of Toyotas max tow weight when it's loaded down.

Can’t wait to get my pseudo tear drop. We ordered a 2021 InTech Pursue loaded up. Already have plenty of mods planned

I've spent the past two weekends working on my build, the shell is all assembled - this weekend the plan is ceiling, wiring, insulation.

ahhhh!!!! So much trailer/camping porn here!!!!

subbing b/c teardrop trailer camping is our retirement goal...hell, it is our right now goal.

Just got my 2021 SR5 to be the "hub" of many years of travel, and looking for help/suggestions/hacks to make the truck super sweet for years to come!!!

We took out the backseat and built a storage box to hold tools, computers, and other travel necessities. I did the 400 watt anytime mod and added a 110v outlet in the console. Back of the truck carries: generator, air compressor, extra gas, drinking water, chairs, shoes, propane and propane accessories (campfire in a can and buddy heater). The cap has tool boxes in the doors to organize backpacking gear and recovery gear. Been on the road for 7 months now.

Also wind and cold will be your biggest issues. We've had a couple of days where the cold wind and rain kept us inside the teardrop for 24 hours. It's tough and you'll find yourself just going for a drive in the truck to be warm. We use an EZUp for a living room, with 4 walls we can get out of minor cold wind and rain, anything over 25mph winds put us in the teardrop.

what is this mod? I have been thinking about how to get power if we are not in a powered campsite. I really like the idea of taking the back seat out for extended trips.

so does the heater in the tear drop not stand up to low temps? Or do you just not have a heater that gets that warm. My wife won't be with me in any cold weather camping...and I LOVE the cold - have done cold weather primitive/backwoods camping all of my life, so I should be fine in most conditions. We do plan on using some sort of exterior tent/pop-up tent for extra space in the summer.

Also, what kind of bumper do you have on your truck?

No heater, that's for the EZUp. Bedroom is body heat or electric blankets if it gets below 40

Front bumper is the now infamous Pelfreybilt
Rear is a dual swing from SOS Concepts in North Carolina

Awesome stuff here! Glad to find some like minded individuals who'd rather use a trailer, than truck bed.

I've taken the opportunity this winter to build my own "squaredrop" trailer! If y'all feel so inclined, follow along on instagram and check it out!

cool...thanks for all the info. I might try to run an outlet to the bed of the truck too...

I was definitely thinking of the electric blanket for heat when it is cold...I am going to need an air conditioner for summer though...or will just sleep outside if it is dry

Our truck came with an inverter that lives under the console and what had a 110v outlet in the bed.

In the summer we Crack the windows a bit and run the fan. It draws air over us giving a nice breeze at night. The only time it's not totally comfortable is in July and August in the East when it's 98 degrees outside and the humidity is 98 percent and everything is just dropping wet

yeah...that humidity is a constant thing for us living in Ohio...we try to travel north in the summer, so will try the fan and windows thing first. We have lucked out and found places in Michigan where it gets cool at night in the past few summers.

Honestly, most of the camping I will be doing with the wife will have electric hook ups anyways. On my own/with my biking friends, it will tend to be more "primitive".

Does anyone have a 12v AC unit that they like for their trailer?

    Put my order in.
Hopefully will have it in 10 months.

Right now I just don't have the space to build my own. All my spare room is used for my business.
By the time my teardrop is done, I will be stepping way down in hours too.

It really fits our style of camping, as we still like backpacking and canoe camping the best.
Even with our 16 foot TT, we always boondocked or dry camped. We want a smaller package to travel far with.

Reserved a build spot with TC.
Not too far away. Great reviews. Owners of these are very satisfied.
