ultimate Taco

i know some of this is going to fall under the buy/sell/trade area but just wanted to start a thread about this idea of mine.... I wanna try to find a tacoma double cab- cab (just the cab) add a 97 style front clip , a normal 6ft bed, and put it all down on a custom frame that has a jeep rubicon sourced dana 44 front axle, tacoma trd rear axle, that way i can have 4.10 gears lockers front and rear coils in front with 4 link and the leaf rear.then power it with a 1kz diesel out of a toyota hilux. what do you guys think ? looking for any input...wether it just be hey that sounds neat or hey you should go with this axle instead type of thing.


obviously hardest part to find will be a double cab that isnt either a complete truck or a complete scrap

 

no one aww come on i would love to see this thing on the road...even with a stock v6 instead of the diesel (yeah I know they make long bed crew cabs in the new body but I dont like them)

 

I can't stand the new body style either.

Why stick with 4.10s? Go with a higher ratio. It will pull better with large tires, unless you are want to drop a v8 into it. My TRD has stock 4.30 gears. 44 is a good axle for this size vehicle. I saw someone recommend a Dana 60 for a Taco. That's overkill unless you stick a really hipo motor in it. With the hilux diesel, I don't think you could possibly break a decent 44 and it weighs a lot less than the 60. The old Chevy Blazers, as heavy as they were, used the 44.

I just spotted an old Taco, maybe an '85 or so, sitting in a yard with weeds growing up around it. Made me start thinking about a project like what you are thinking: Custom frame, 44 front with coils, Toy rear with locker, Marlin Crawler, dual transfer case, 6" lift, 35" tires...rock climbing in Farmington, NM...Maybe when I get rich and famous (well at least rich)...

 

yeah i actually think witht he diesel Torque 4.10's with 33's will be perfect if it was a gas motor i might go 4.56 with 33's... i want this one to be like my tow donkey and road trip veh

 

also yeah I have had 44's...i still have one of the ones used for taco SAS's i just thought of the jeep one since its the right width and would already have 4 link (not to mention tons of aftermarket arms,coils etc since its a heep...i mean jeep axle)

 

sorry guys the tacoma isnt the tacoma anymore...its the tundra...lol..they are huge...i wont be buying new tacoma ever again unless they go back to a real mini truck like they started with... they should have left the tacoma the same size...made the new tacoma be the new tundra and then came out with a new nameplate for the new tundra...oh and that thing rocks drove one with the 5.7...nice... oh and btw did you know that all you v6 guys have hemi's? basically the combustion chamber follows the hemispherical design... so next time a dodge rolls up and you blow em away let em know you have a hemi

 

Lol.....most engines do have a hemispherical head design they just can't call it a hemi because dodge has that name. Hemi's don't flow as well as some other head designs anyways what was the first hemi? something like 1955.....OOOLLLDDDD school technology.

 

yeah but what was the first combustion engine....like 1800 something? LOL old or not you can get power out of them... but dodge just thinks that the name adds power..kinda like the coveted trd stickers.lol... till you see the new tundras specs right beside any other 1/2 tons LOL
oh yeah and I was told by a guy in a ford ranger once that toyota has tons of problems with those new 2.7's he looked at them but decided to go with the 3.0v6 ranger....HUH?????? its the same 2.7 as always and the 3.0's are a taurus DOG engine lol i have a 1994 ranger with the 4.0 and the yota rocks its world

 

oh and btw i dont think the new taco's are like ugly or anything..so dont be offended they are sharp...just not taco esqe enough lol.. i like my little trucks
